Description This is a detail of a large 3D environment. It is one of many test renders done to evaluate the progress.

Some day this will actually be finished

But until then, I will post some of the "in progress" images

the picture feels right. Nice textures BTW, convincing. I mean I guess thats the part it will play. To convince the human eye that such place actually exists.
I also like the composition. Good luck to you!

Great texturing man, how big are your maps?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

steve-burg In reply to Kaioshen [2011-01-29 14:45:02 +0000 UTC]

The maps vary a lot in size - the largest are 4096 pixels, the average size is 2048 pixels, and some are 256 pixels (on small props). It's a juggling act to balance with the memory limitations - the scene sucks up a lot of texture memory as well as geometry (about 1.5 million vertices so far - and I have a lot to still add!!)

Wow man, big scene huh? My computer would probably crash with that much geometry alone, not to mention with the textures. Looking forward to seeing this develop.

This whole scene really looks great, although I don't think those cables look right. I really like all the details and a great job was done on making everything look worn.

The cables are a nightmare to get in there - I'm sure they'll be reworked before this little project is complete

Yeah, that project looks like a hand full. Coming along nicely.

I'm really liking these, are they for a personal thing?

For personal work? In a manner of speaking, yes! I don't want to say too much more just yet, though

Brilliant series of renders Steve!
Love the grungy, battered, used look you've got to everything.
I can almost smell the tar, grease and oily fumes!
The sense of solid realism is spot on! ...

I feel like I could get my hands dirty if I touch the screen! It certainly has that creosote/tar grim feel down solid. Again, so great shapes hiding under the dirt n' debris.
