Description Balls this is a huge file. Anyways, here is a metal chart by metalheads for metalheads.

PLEASE READ before posting:

1) The name of the band with OM as their symbol IS "OM". I didn't think I'd have to repeat that. But if you guys insist, I'll put it in.

2) The bands in orange are NOT metal bands. That's why they're called "noble rocks". They're actually ROCK bands. Van Halen was never really a metal band and neither was AC/DC, but these are all rock bands that are worthy of a listen for people that like metal and rock.

If you look at the periodic table of the elements, the right side is dedicated to non-metals and the right row is noble gases, and as you know, a gas is definitely not a metal. Hence that is a parody on that. Those of you who stayed awake in chemistry class will appreciate this.

To be fair, these are not necessarily the HOLYSHITBEST bands in each genre. However. there are some I believe are worth a firm listen in addition to some of the old classics. That's why there are bands from the last 10 years on here.

Also, to be perfectly clear, this does not represent all the good bands in each genre. Doing that would have been impossible.

Anyone can throw Metallica and Megadeth on a mural and say "I'm awesome!" but I wanted to make this something that will stick and maybe give some cred to lesser known bands.

UPDATE: 2/8/13 -- 700 downloads! Wow, you guys really like this!!

2/21/13 -- 800 downloads!! Back on track! Will we see 1,000 soon?

3/5/13 -- 900 downloads! What in the heck is going on? This is almost to 1,000!!

3/16/13 -- WE HAVE HIT 1,000 DOWNLOADS! Wow, I'm only about 950 behind the white version of the table this was based on! (seriously. I want to pass this guy, even though his has been on for years)

3/30/13 -- 1,100 downloads! HELL YEAH!!

4/19/13 -- 1,200 downloads!! you guys are incredible! Spread the word!

6/22/15 -- 1,300 downloads!! Hey we finally got it!

I'm giving out free downloads to share the good metal. Be sure to spread the word, download this, use it for whatever you want. I'd like to see over 5,000 downloads!

Some people question the validity of grunge at all given the low number of bands and the fact most of them could be put into other categories, for example, Alice in Chains is heavy metal, Soundgarden and Nirvana are hard rock, Pearl Jam is alternative metal and Stone Temple Pilots is a carbon copy of all three. Anyways, since Grunge really was only a thing for about 3-4 years, I decided to leave it off.Β

didn't think of them at the time, tbh. It's funny because I had known about Voivod for years.Β

Otep I never really considered metal.

Rammstein I can't get into so I left them off. Industrial Metal isn't something I have given a lot of thought to on this one.

Thank you! It has quite a history.

A friend of mine sent me a table about a month before I made this and it was a horrible mess. Some of the letters were used more than once, some of the band/artist names were spelled wrong, most of the names weren't really truly defining the genre, so I consulted with a bunch of my friends and said "No, we're going to do this and we're going to do it right!".

I'm glad you like it. Download it, print it off, make a mural out of it.

Here's a little list of some songs of them,it's really sad how they're so unknown, they're really good.

They're known as "Dark Forest(UK)" due to many stuff called Dark Forest around.

It's an epic fantasy adventure web comic that takes place in a fictional world where itself, and each nation that makes it up is a reference to heavy metal, and specific metal genres.

Thank you so much! A few months ago, someone sent me a "Periodic Table of Heavy Metal" and to be honest, it was a disaster. Some of the chemical symbols were used repeatedly, the genres had bands from all over the place, some of the band/artist names were spelled incorrectly, and I kid you not, it has over 7,000 downloads here on DeviantArt.

The black one has over 7,000 downloads and the white one has 1,600 downloads. Forreals.

I saw that and said "No, this is unacceptable. I want to make a table of heavy metal BY metalheads, FOR metalheads.". Hence this.

Seriously? That's terrible, I feel like this is such an awesome idea, but you can't half-ass it like that.

Thank you for sending the effort to giving this project the justice it deserves : )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SteveHNo96 In reply to f1utterby3 [2013-03-03 11:23:14 +0000 UTC]

Honest to God. The black version has over 7,400 downloads: [link]

The white version has over 1,600 downloads and the only thing he did was change the colors: :thumb138174763:

Mine isn't quite there, it's at 871 (as of right now) but I think I did a much better job. I made it the way it should be. There are no duplicates in the chemical symbols and the use of colors along with the key makes this one easy to identify what I was going for.
