Description "Blessed are those who mourn,
For they will be comforted."

- Matthew 5:4

8.5 x 11 India ink on paper.

A busy one with no real focus in the composition. Just lots o' dots.

I started this pointillism piece in a time of grieving which made it a good way to relax and meditate through the process. It was not a distraction, however. It was more of a healthy way to feel my way through.

My reference was an original photograph.

Tools and Materials:

- Speedball Super Black India Ink
- Daler-Rowney Exression 15/0 Spotter Brush
- Pentalic Paper for Pens

Time:

- 32 hours.

Any critique is encouraged and greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thank you so much for your appreciation, MaySan. Especially because I just took a deep breath and winged it on a hunch, haha.

I did try really hard to concentrate on the consistency of the shading and like the way it turned out too.

So thanks again

I believe Emily Dickinson wrote 'Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality.'

Ummm, hope you feel better.

Wow! Did you freehand that? Its beautiful!

StevenJSBowcott In reply to TitanicPhan [2009-09-01 04:29:54 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I did the outines in pencil on a seperate piece of paper and stippled the first, light layer of outlines using a light box I made. That way I could fill in the shading by looking at my original photographic reference.

I prefer to do it that way rather than inking over pencil because I hate dragging an eraser over finished product. It just feels cleaner, you know?

Thank you for you compliment and taking the time to view my work and comment. My appreciation in return for yours.

Well, you did an outstanding job!!!! I wish I had a light box..my dad could probably make one but anyway,Yeah nothing makes me more angry than having messy lines on something I worked hard on and then I have to erase it and mark over it with an ink pin..it sends a sever up my spine just think about it! lol

Thanks again

I totally know what you mean. What mad me agrier was learning how to erase a page full of graphite under ink the wrong way, which ends up cripming or crumpling the paper.

How to prevent destroying finished product: Erase in one direction, AWAY from anchor hand/fingers! I can laugh about it now without crying inside . . . I think ToT

Well my grandmother is a professional artist so she told me how to erase things which is a blessing because I would have ruined lots of good sketches if I didn't know how to erase !
