Family: Krubera Troll clan (formerly), Grimm Family
Background: Gnarr once lived in the Deep Caverns of the Krubera trolls as a young troll, alongside his "brothers". However, when he was a just a youngling, he was taken and given to the Evil Queen to give them a champion. Gnarr however, was lead to believe that Guumar raided his village, kidnapping him and taking him away from his family. As he was raised to be a soldier in the Dark Troll Army, due to the Krubera's natural sensitivity to light, Gnarr was forced to adapt in a variety of ways and so doing stunted his ability to speak coherently like the rest of his kind.
Gnarr was once the general of Guumar's horde, but just before the Battle of the Black Mirror Gateway, he saw the error of his ways once he realized humans were afraid of him, and began a road of peace and became a pacifist. With his aid, the Grimm Brothers, Good Trolls, and the first Grimmhunters triumphed over Guumar, with Della the Deliverer banishing Maleficent, Guumar and the Dark Army, minus Gularg, to the Dark Realm: a Labyrinth of Darkness and Evil. Centuries later, Gnarr, hiding in a place called the Ogre Cave, was stumbled upon by three children: Milton, Alistair, and James Grimm. Milton, running away after Gnarr belched, stumbled upon the two frightened children, and instead led them out the way they came in. He then left the two kids behind at the entrance, leaving them both confused on the Troll’s behavior.
The same night, before Gnarr could leave and find another hiding place, the boy, Alistair, appeared again and wanted to talk to the Troll, wnaitng to know why a former Dark Troll helped humans. After learning of Gnarr’s past and his regret, Alistair wanted him to be his friend and stay with them. With much argument, as well as his father almost freaking out, Gnarr was accepted into the family and made Alistair’s bodyguard. The two had been inseparable since then and in the present time. Gnarr was trying to help Alistair when Hansworth was fighting against Gularg. Unfortunately, Gnarr was knocked out and almost sank in a sandpit in the Forbidden Forest, but the Troll’s strength managed to dig himself out, break into the dungeon to get Alistair out, as well as rip the doors off the hinges.
There, he and Alistair met Dexter Blake, the new bearer of the Amulet of Grimm, Hansworth’s weapon. Though both parties had to split up, they eventually found each other again in the Forbidden Forest to find Dexter and a purple-haired maiden… of whom both freaked out that she was Raven, the Daughter of Ravana the Evil Queen: one of Gnarr’s earlier masters. Though after being chased by Gularg to Troll Market, Gnarr saw the goodness in Raven’s actions when she advised to Dexter on concentrating when activating the Amulet, how to fight against Gularg, or saving him with her just-awakened magic.
From then on forth, Gnarr was in helping with Dexter and Raven with their studies as Grimmhunters, as well as them and their friends helping him to reconcile with his regret in the past and enforcing him to fight not to hurt but to protect.
Personality: Despite his appearance, Gnarr is a fun-loving, loyal, friendly, and gentle giant, who has a tragic history from childhood. When he was taken by the Dark Army at a tender age, his speech was permanently impaired and doesn't speak as elegantly as the other Krubera trolls. He's also not very bright, as he forms simple sentences and not understanding big words, constantly confused by Alistair’s large vocabulary.
In the past, Gnarr was once a violent Dark Troll, raised to eat innocent humans and was the general of Guumar's army. However, after he renounced his flesh-eating ways, he became more gentle and friendly, even making an oath to never kill anyone and becomes a pacifist.
There are times when Gnarr's rage happens unexpectedly, like when Toby plays a violent video game which scares Gnarr into his Dark Troll state. After becoming Raven's bodyguard, Gnarr was reluctant, due to his aggressive history, yet Raven encourages him that they are friends and plays more friendly games with each other. After which, Gnarr grows more confident in his strength and begins to become more of a fighter than a "pet", renouncing his pacifist oath to protect his friends instead.
