Description Is anyone else excited for the new Eureka Seven? Cause I am!

I was making this as part of a tutorial on hand painted textures (some of my friends asked I do it). So, once this is done, I'll make sure to post that link!

It's about 80-90% complete, but I still need to do more texture painting and beef it up some more. If anybody has any ideas to make it better, it would be appreciated. Metal is quite a challenge to paint, haha.

To see it in 3D, check it out on my p3d.in account!

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy! More to come soon!

Vision: I think that you went into this project with a very clear idea of exactly what you were aiming for, and from what I can tell it's going just about perfectly. You have a great low poly model that utilizes its textures smartly to add a lot of detail without taking up a lot of faces. This would be great as is for any number of games out there.

Originality: This is a fan character from what I gather, so I can't state much on the character design, but the project is well made and executed and it's not in some boring t-pose, it's on a flying skateboard-esque thing, which is pretty awesome. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> I think you present the information in an interesting way, and that's very important!

Technique: Looking at your 3D model you seem to have a pretty solid design. There are some unessary tris you could get rid of (for example, the bottom of the chest ridge comes together in four tris. Delete the two on each side and create a new quad there to reduce the pole from 8 edges to 6 and convert the tris to quads. This obviously isn't really a big deal since your toso won't flex like an organic chest would. For the textures, the only thing I would chance would be to add something to the hexagon joints. Right now you have them as flat grey objects, which isn't terrible since you don't see much of them. However, you have plenty of texture space to add something more interesting there. Maybe painting a 'screw' or gear shape there would give it some more flare.

Impact: Overall, great job. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> I think you have a great product that could be used in a game right away!

Haha, I forgot to add that I would definitely love to put it in a game! Time to check out some Unity tutorials.

haha I haven't used Unity so far, but we did UDK in class. That was fun and really straight forward to learn!

Cool! If you got UDK pretty well, Unity may be even easier! Except the scripting. I think Kismet is way easier than the Unity Javascript. (Scripting in general is nonsense.)

Yeah, I have never touched scripting at all. lol

Hey Jeanette, thanks for the crit! This is the first "formal" (is that what it would be called? lol) critique on this site.

A couple friends have told me about some of those problem areas too, so I hope to fix up some of them. Thanks for the ideas! And also, good thing you caught that empty part on the texture; I totally overlooked it (which kind of makes me seem like a huge noob, haha.)

I'll make sure to fix up some things, and make it better! Thanks again for the comments, I appreciate it!

Yeah you don't get a whole lot of them. DA is more of a casual art collecting and sharing site than a serious formal place I think. Most people are watching 30-1000 artists and groups so it's time consuming to comment on everything let alone offer full critiques. But I try to take the time to do them now and then! lol

True that! Watching the groups is even more stuff to look at. TOO MUCH AWESOME. XD

It is fun to check out stuff though! Thanks!

this is my first critique but i had to write it. your doing a splendid job! as a fan or eureka seven im quite fond of the nirvash, and your doing a great job of capturing its image. this certainly resembles the nirvash and your detail is quite good. the shoulders and cockpit (chest area) look a little odd... perhaps a bit big but other than that their nice. i really think you did a superb job on the ref board, reminds me of moments from the first series C:
all in all good job (b^-^)b thumbs up! looking great!

Thanks a bunch, nerm34!

It is true that it is pretty bulky on the top, so hopefully I can shrink that down a bit. That shouldn't be too difficult, hopefully. Thanks for pointing it out! Good eyes.

Thanks again, and I'll make it better!

Also, the new series is pretty awesome now (though the first couple episodes were a bit mellow) and I can't wait to watch the new episode tonight!

I may have to check it out, haha! I was afraid it would be only Japanese. And it seemed short (12 episodes?) from Wikipedia, which is great for my attention span!

nerm34 In reply to Stoop--Kid [2012-08-06 21:15:51 +0000 UTC]

its acctualy got a 2nd season. and yes its in japanese with subs. (imo english dubbed animes always sound horrible)

Stoop--Kid In reply to nerm34 [2012-08-09 03:22:46 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I've always been a fan of short series. Anywhere over 20 episodes makes me lose attention.

Awww. I like both, but I like dubbed stuff more because I can draw while it plays in the background. But once I become fluent in Japanese (which might never happen) then I'll watch subs only!

Others have said what I could in critiques, so I'll just comment. Great job on the model. Looks very true to the source. I'm in the process of watching E7AO, and I'm starting to like it (I wasn't sure, at the beginning, if they'd pull it together with the original).
As far as the textures, I think you need less dark gradient on the board. The trapar wings look good, though.
Great work.

Sweet, I'm still currenly tweaking those, so it's an easy fix. Thanks so much for your feedback! I really appreciate it.

Yeah, the first couple episodes were a wee bit dull. >.<
