Here's Captain Hess everybody!

He's an infantry captain for the army that's invading my MCs country. He's an excellent swordsman and is one of the best teachers of sword-craft the army has. While he is a competent warrior, he's often given command of inexperienced troops in support positions, because he's so good at training them up. He works with his wife, Faline (the woman in the Guess Who pic) and she's gone with him for many years. He runs the military and security aspects of camp, while she runs everything else, such as food, cleaning, and repair duties. They make a good team.

In the story, he's put in charge of a caravan of the spoils of war, including livestock and material valuables. His life is greatly complicated when he encounters, and thus has to decide how to deal with, a young girl wandering the open grassland and her older brother, who's almost as skilled with the blade as him.
