Description So, umm... I really didn't feel like drawing a while back but I've always enjoyed working with plastic canvas so I thought of a way I could take a break and be working on oc training too! Hope you all like it.

Wren has a few fears she has to deal with, and one big category for her is social anxiety. She intensely dislikes being put into situations where there are expectations put on her that she doesn't understand. She's not very good at reading a room and quickly figuring out what the best way to approach it is. One of her biggest hangups is tables.

When she was young, her extended family would invite her and her mother to dinner for the sole purpose of humiliating them. Wren hasn't felt safe sitting down to eat since. Even in a more informal setting or with friends she prefers to eat off to the side or at the edge near a door, for a quick getaway. If she is forced to sit down and eat, she might start having a mini panic attack and feel all but chained down. I tried to represent that here.

I TAKE ALL CREDIT FOR INTRODUCING THIS MEDIUM TO YOU.

As sad as this task is suppose to be, plastic canvis Wren is so friggen adorable and you should unchain her from the table and give her a house to live in instead.

YOU ARE THE PLASTIC AND YARN QUEEN AND LIVE IN A PLASTIC AND YARN CASTLE.
Plastic canvas Wren is super adorable, but if I unchain her then the shadow people will be lonely without her!

I think the shadow people will live...or maybe not. You're right, it may ruin the art.

Yes I had a feeling this would require some explanation. I had a lot of fun working on it though and I'm super proud of it.

Woah! That's a pretty unique way to show fear! The other people are flat so it really sells the idea that Wren sees them less as humans and more as obstacles :0

Oh yes. They are scary, scary monsters.

This is so cool! I don't think we ever had a submission like this - it's incredibly creative and is a great narrative piece of work.

Wren's family truly consisted of horrible people, and they did far more damage than Wren shows. It's no small wonder Wren has trouble eating in public settings; food-related traumas tend to be raw and may last a lifetime. I'm so sorry for her

Awwww I'm glad you think so! There's something both primal and vulnerable about eating, so it makes a sad kind of sense that there are so many ways people can have issues surrounding it. I actually based Wren's anxiety around some of my own table issues. She has it much worse of course but yeah. Let's just say I'll never be a proponent of the whole, "you can't leave the table until you've been excused" thing.

Eating is not just at the heart of survival, it's at the heart of culture, and is an immensely social activity; you phrased it incredibly well. Eating issues come in such a plethora of shapes and forms catered to the individual :') I'm sorry to hear you have some issues with eating yourself (always did hate that line too, even if I'm a social eater who can't bring myself to eat without company).

Also, congratulations on writing a nicely rounded character in Wren.

Wow! well, that's a creative way to show her fear I'm with you Wren! I don't like tables either! It makes sense that the antics of her maternal family would give her such bad memories.

Thanks! I figured fear can be a bit more abstract, so it was the best task to use this idea for. I feel like, depending on your history, tables can feel very formal and scary. There are a lot of traditions and customs around eating together, for any culture.

This looks amazing! Your crafting work looks lovely.
I like how only Wren is the detailed and coloured humanoid, it adds more to the concept.

Aww, thanks! I wanted to make her state of mind as clear as possible. Other people become monsters when she's scared like this.

Aw wow this is so cool! And the symbolism comes through really well! She definitely looks chained down to the table and like shes trying to lean away from it all. Seriously cool!

Thanks so much! I ended up having more freedom with the pose then I thought I would. By the time I stitched Wren together (there's a front and back half to her) the inside was so full of knots and ends and yarn running this way and that, that I knew I wouldn't be able to get another thread into it. So I couldn't stitch her feet to the floor like I'd been planning. It ended up being a positive.

Oh, thank you. One nice thing about plastic canvas for me is I can work on it more or less for hours on end and not have any trouble. I need breaks much more often when I'm drawing.
