Divine Blessing | Vitae'a:Following a brutal attack by a pack of woodland wolves, in the Autumn of Year 2002 of the Dragon Era led to Link receiving a Divine Blessing from the demi-goddess, Vitae'a! Tasked with becoming the 'sword and shield' of Auster, Link's purpose in life is now to become the greatest guardian that the forest has ever known. Vitae'a gifted the young stag enhanced strength, stamina, and agility, as well as reshaping his Lumos magic strain into a form which allowed physical attacks of light.
However, these gifts have come at a cost. While Link's memory of the wolf attack was blessedly wiped from his memory (he remembers the events leading up to/after the attack, but does not remember the attack itself), his body still bears the scars of the event. Additionally, while the demi-goddess healed his bodily wounds, one injury in particular proved difficult to mend; the blow that would have been Link's death sentence - a deep gash to his jugular - has rendered him nearly speechless. While the stag can speak at a whisper, it is an ugly and raspy sound. Because of this, he prefers to keep his silence, although he has begun to rely on a complete series of whistles to communicate.
While currently dedicated to his deity-given task, Link was given a warning from Vitae'a that, should he ever fail her, Link will suffer the demi-goddess's wrath. While she healed him, she gathered together his pain and suffering into a cloud of dark energy. The shadow haunts the young Austerian, a part of him that he cannot outrun or fool. If Link were to ever cross the demi-goddess's wishes, the shadow would cease to follow him and simply begin to overtake him....
History:
Link's story starts with both great triumph and great sadness. The union between his parents, the valiant Sir Kelso - a magnificent grey stag, a lord of Auster, who had risen within the ranks of the Austerian guard to the prestigious Queen's Guard - and the stunning Rosalind, a renegade doe who was later revealed to be an astray princess of Auster. Rosalind was a strong and kind-hearted doe who founded a successful haven for misfits that she named Sanctuary.
The pair first came into contact with each other in the Spring of the Year 1994. Kelso, having assisted in the escape of Crown Princess Cadhara from the Shadow's siege of Auster with another member of the Queen's Guard, Thorne, and a young Brigadier named Theodore, had fled Auster's forests and found himself somewhere to the north. Unbeknownst to them, the group had been tailed by Shadows keen on capturing the princess to bring back to their Raven Queen, Enebris. A fight broke out but, while all powerful magic weilders in their own right, they were tired. Kelso, sensing this, sacrificed himself so that Cadhara, Thorne, and Theodore could escape. Kelso was mauled, the angry claws and teeth of the Shadows tearing at his coat until, finally, the stag could take no more and fell, vanquished. Although very near death, the stag clung to life. It was in this state that Rosalind first found him.
She brought him back to Sanctuary, nursing the stag back to health until finally his eyes blinked open to the world. However, his memory had left him with no inclination of who he was or how he had gotten into the predicament he was in when Rosalind found him. He did, however, have the nagging sense that something very important was happening and he, somehow, felt that he had failed terribly at something.
Rosalind, sensing his need of a purpose until such a day - if any - that his memory should return, gave the stag the nickname 'Soldier' and allowed him to stay in Sanctuary. It would be more than a year's time before Kelso's memory would return to him, a time within which Kelso - under his identity as Soldier - regained his strength, healed his mind, and grew closer and closer to the beautiful Rosalind... The stag would know no greater peace than these times, seasons within which he had no duty to anyone except himself and Rosalind, to whom he had wedded in a simple and private ceremony in the fall of Year 1996 within Sanctuary... But it was not to last; just days after the wedding, as suddenly as his memory had fled him, it returned without warning. Unable to hide from his duty and unwilling to fail the Crown Princess again, Kelso bid his golden bride goodbye, promising to return to her side when he had finished his mission.
His timing was impeccable. Just as he left Sanctuary, the stag stumbled across an old ally, Rhette, with whom he had served in the Austerian Guard with so many seasons before, and they in turn watched with frustration as the Shadow Alliance passed them by, Crown Princess Cadhara in tow. They knew the Shadows could not be allowed to conquer Auster; Rhette left to rally the Scybilline, while Kelso ran west to plead for aid from the Nombeko. From there, he ran to Sanctuary, to warn Rosalind of what was to come...
What would occur would be one of the darkest moment - but also one of the brightest moments - in Austerian history... if not the history of Anomalous itself. The Shadow's Queen, Enebris, sacrificed the former Queen of Auster, Haraedla, but before she could slay the Crown Princess Cadhara the allied forces of Nombeko, Linx, Austerians still loyal to the crown, and Scybilline descended upon the Shadows. A battle broke out unlike any seen before, with the Shadows and their allies, the Saraphs (who later turned on them), battling against a united Anomalous. A blinding flash, a giant raven... Divine intervention? Some say so. The Austerians and their allies emerged victorious, but not without plenty of blood being shed from both sides.
Among the dead was Link's father, Kelso, slain in this battle by the Raven Queen's son, Locke. He was buried in a place of honor for his acts of heroism in the glade beneath the Wishing Tree, where he would be always watched over by the goddess Vae'a. Cadhara was crowned Queen of Auster and a time of peace was announced. Rosalind gave birth... but she would never raise her children. First one fawn, then a second, then a third... Link, his sister Zelda, his brother Ganon... All three made it safely through the arduous labor, thanks to the magic of their mother and the blessed Queen. But for Rosalind, help came too late. She passed away in the presence of her brother Telperion, who was charged with the care of the fawns.
As the only living children of Kelso - a dear friend of the Queen Cadhara - and Rosalind, a princess of Auster by blood, the queen offered to house the children in the palace, where there were wetnurses and hoofmaidens aplenty to ensure they were well-cared for when Telperion had other business to attend to. So it was that the children received a high-born's upbringing, knowing the riches and plenty of Auster's finest, learning from the most knowledgeable tutors, and spending what time they had to themselves with either their uncle or with each other, playing in the forest.
With the coming of the winter of the Year 1998, Telperion was given the status of an Ambassador for Auster after the deal between the Saraphs and the Austerians was struck by Queen Cadhara and Sultana Otrera. With their uncle gone even more than before, Link relishes even more the heroic tales of his parents, such as tales of Rosalind's bravery in the battle against the Shadows on the Nombeko Plains and how his father helped Cadhara escape the forest after the initial attack of the Shadows... This has fostered a strong pride in his blood, but has also caused the young stag to put an immense amount of pressure on himself to be just as great, that he may not sully the good names of his mother and father.
Chronological Storyline:
Year 1997 of the New Generation | Newborn:
- Spring - Sunset At Dawn | Born as the first of three triplets, although unfortunately the ordeal kills Link's mother. Thanks to his father's close relations and heroic acts alongside his mother's princess status (despite the fact that she was renegade), Queen Cadhara awards the three children the rank worthy of their mother's line. Telperion arranges for them to be raised in the palace, watched over by the Queen herself and the wetnurses and hoofmaidens that can devote their full attention to the fawns.
- Summer - Linx is raised alongside his siblings in the Austerian palace, attending lessons about the history of Auster and receiving an education worthy of a true prince or princess.
- Winter - Tomorrow | After 'peace' was made between the Saraph Sultaness, Otrera, and the Austerian Queen, Cadhara, Link's Uncle Telperion puts his name forth - and is successful in acquiring - the title of Austerian ambassador. Link is proud of his uncle's accomplishment, but struggles with the fact that Telperion will be away for so long.
Year 1998 of the New Generation | 1 Year.
- Spring - Link celebrates his first birthday with his siblings. The Queen holds a private banquet for them and Telperion returns from his duties in the desert to celebrate the occassion, gifting Link with a trinket from the Gardens of Elysia.
