Description Inktober'18 #23

Some toys from the old Starriors 80's toyline.
This robot toyline was never really as popular as.....well....we'll just say "others".
Seen here are two Ptrotectors: Crank the Wastor, and Nipper the Trashor.
(and if any of you out there already knew that, then hell...add more nerd points to you nerd license)

Unlike a lot of other 80's toylines of the time, these guys never did have any animated series to go with it.
I'd sure still like to see one now, and ideally....
any new reboot/remake I'd like to be made maybe like the recent MOTU, Thundercats and Voltron remakes.
Maybe along with a new toyline too.
(hey, better late than never)
But alas, as far as I know it's another old IP lost in legal limbo.
Who the heck knows who owns it/who has the rights to it now.

Which is really too bad that it was never that popular,
(except to sad nerdy dudes like me)
because it had a really good short 4 issue limited tie-in comic book from MARVEL.
In addition, there were also some other mini-comics included with each toy.
But I have no idea if those comics were produced by MARVEL too or not.

Although I have the entire 4 issue MARVEL Starrioirs comic book series,
I'm afraid that I've never read all the toy mini comics.
So I don't know if there was ever anything in the 2 comic storylines that directly contradicted each other.
Now that I think about it, the included toy mini-comics......
probably just shared an initial plot overview with each other,
and had no story continuity to begin with anyway.

But at the same time....based on the few mini-comics that I did actually get to read
it did seem to me, like these stories could have been seen as "side-stories",
that probably could have fit into the short MARVEL comic book story timeline at some point.
I don't believe that it's an especially hard or expensive set of comicbooks to get ahold of,
but if you've never read it, check it out sometime if you can.

Like pretty much all of toy/cartoon/comicbook IP's of the 80's,
there were some weird glaring discrepancies between said toy/cartoon/comicbook IP's.
But since there was no animated cartoon series for Starriors, it'll just make things quicker.
One of the biggest weird things about the different toy/comicbook continuities was that,
the old Starriors toy commercials seemed to indicate that the Starriors themselves
were in fact, actual human piloted giant robots/giant mechs.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbTFW2…
Not unlike the robots/mechs seen the BattleTech or MechWarrior series of RPG's and videogames.

While on the other hand.....

The MARVEL Comics 4 issue limited series showed the Starriors to be,
Mostly sentient, and cognitive free-thinking robots,
(as it was shown that several of them were psychologically torn between
what they wanted to do/needed to do, and what the were programmed to do)
These Starriors seen here, were also more or less, HUMAN-sized.
Much like: Gort, Robby, Robocop, Terminators, and various StarWars droids, etc. etc. etc.
(the toy mini comics did not seem to ever go into this)
Since I'm a fan to the comics, I personally prefer this take on them.
Again, even now I'd still love to see an animated series adapting the MARVEL storyline,
with maybe some of the mini comic stories thrown in to fill it out.

Ink (of course) on regular paper with a little Photoshopping here & there.
