Description As road congestion got worse in London in the 1900s plans were drawn up for a dedicated narrow guage underground electric railway running from Whitechapel to Paddington, serving 9 sorting offices and 2 main line stations.

With electric cars like this one from the 30's the Post Office Railway shifted about 40 million letters betwen the London and the main sorting office!

The network declined and is now closed, labelled as "mothballed" by Royal Mail, despite encouraged usage by the local authorities.
