Description This is a commission I recently completed. If I was doing this for myself or for publication and didn't have to worry about the original art I would have Photoshoped in all the gears and stuff and then drawn some textures on them. Since this was for a commission I felt obliged to draw all the background elements (from reference). Gears is hard! Mad props to artists who worked before the existence of Adobe Phtoshop and Illustrator! So this is a rarity for me today an illustration straight from pencil to ink to scan with minimal digital tweaking. This is also the first time I've drawn Sandman's Death and also the first time I drew the Fall Out Toy Works' robot chick, I have no idea who she is-reminds me a bit of Battle Angel Alita.

Hand-drawn machines, very well done!

I agree with B3nn3tt, less digital is a good thing ('specially with hand-inked stuff).

Thanks, all I ever see is the mistakes. I tend to like my art only after I've been away from it for a month or so, then I forget how far short it is from the image I saw in my head when I started the drawing.

Heh, I don't doubt that you've heard "you are your own worst critic".

If your critic half is a negative, time-wasting beast, he probably needs to shut up. Maybe some silver bullets will do. KERPOW!

For this piece, looks like classic comic-book art! Your critic beast is not being kind to you about this one *tosses garlic and salt around*

I think my critical side is what keeps me trying to improve. I would never shoot him, but I do kick him now and again

*giggle* then give him a kick for me.

Dangit, Steve, this is awesome. It appears that less digital is a good thing...

Really? All I see is a dozen things I would like to fix in Photoshop. Still it was fun to do and see I'm not totally dependent on the "undo" function of PS.

How'd the gallery show go at the Works? Your art looked awesome framed.

I guess I just like to see things a little more organic, so I like them "un-fixed"

The Works opening was cool; the place was pretty packed, really. I didn't know you were exhibiting, too!

Thanks! I always think I'm inking like Terry Austin in my head and it comes out looking like Michael Zulli with a broke wrist.
