Description i'm always fascinated by women's backs. a woman can communicate so much with just the way she sits or stands, you don't even need to see her face to understand the emotion.

this is a rough sketch to capture a delicate mood.

Delicate and splendid work, Subhankar. I am myself often marveled by a woman's back, and what you say illustrate so well what I was not able to express

oh, you are quite welcome. i would love to be able to draw. but i have never done that, and M NOT SURE HOW TO EVEN BEGIN . I DO HAVE ART PAPER, AND PERHAPS I WOULD FAIL MISERABLY, BUT, SINCE I DO HAVE the paper, and nothing else. what suggestion could you give me to help me try.i have no paint etc, so, i would have to do pencil i guess. how does one start?
mia.......
"in life..one is always either a teacher or a student".. i always loved that quoate.
and i realize it is very true. i have many things that i could teach, and at the same time, their are many things that i would love to learn. so i too, love to teach what i know, and learn what i do not know.

actually mia, my version of that quote is: "one is a teacher AND a student" because every single person i've met in my life, i'm sure i could learn from/teach something (that includes babies and animals too, although in their case i'd only learn!). believe it or not, the moment i stepped into your gallery, i got inspired (another word for 'learned') to try out something different (remember the "my head is spinning" comment?). so you see, YOU taught me, too!

about starting out in traditional art? there are 2 ways to approach it. choose whatever suits you:
1. take any pencil/pen/chalk/crayon/whatever you have closest at hand and try to copy an object or photograph (preferably with light-and-shadow contrasts) on paper. that's still life drawing.
2. if, like me, you prefer human subjects, try to copy a face/figure from a photo (or the mirror: you yourself are a good model).
3. experiment with different shades of pencils (2B, 4B, 6B, 8B) on different textured papers (slightly rough surface).
4. have fun!

now HERE'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:
1. don't judge yourself too harshly. let the criticism come from level-headed fellow artists (i'd be glad to do that for you).
2. NEVER EVER EVER compare your art to ANYBODY else's, good or bad. remember, art is the MOST SUBJECTIVE form of expression. there is no CORRECT or WRONG art. others can sympathise or TRY to understand you, but NOBODY in the world can your truly empathise what you are feeling. the real aim of art is to do it for YOURSELF. ...and if you are unsatisfied with the result, CONSIDER YOURSELF A TRUE ARTIST!
3. just enjoy yourself...and to hell with what the world thinks!
