Go to your profile, hover to your current icon. You should see a white border around it. Click it, find anything you want your icon as, then paste it as your icon. (.gif files can only be 50x50 in size and 16 KB in file size)

it should be simple
1) Move your cursor over the image.
2) right-click [using the mouse] on the image. should bring up a list of options.
3) select the "save as" option and save the image to your desktop or wherever you can find it again.
4) then go to your deviantart page/profile (click your own name)
5) hover your mouse cursor over your icon at the top left corner. (this should highlight your icon)
6) click the "edit" button on your icon. (it looks like a pencil)
7) when a box appears - hit "upload image" and find the icon you saved
8) wait for the image to load - hit "save"

Should be the same as any other image. Right-click, save as, then go to your profile page, hover over your icon, edit and then find the file and upload it
