Description
Theses little critters live hidden in the Swedish woods.
On their backs grow small round lumps in various colors, most commonly blue and red, to emulate the look of the local berries that grow in the woods they occupy.
This is of course a pretty terrible camouflage as many animals that would be unlikely to eat them otherwise, will sometimes do so only because they have mistaken the creatures as a patch of fresh lingon berries or something!
A Berriloo may look similar to a lemming or a hamster in appearance, but it's teeth are very small and weak in comparison to most rodents.
It's diet contains mostly of larvae and grubs, soft things that it can easily swallow, and therefore it often makes it's nest in damp old tree trunks as the above picture illustrates.
This is older work, from my Arvidsjaur Exhibition.
At the time I was also selling little stress balls with berriloo faces, it was good times!
Anyway, just so you do not get too scared of picking berries in Sweden, these creatures are invented by my husband for me to paint and so you should run no risk of actually biting into one the next time you pick up a nice juicy blueberry....probably.
