Description My OC Saul from 'Blindness'

here's some really basic info, feel free to ignore it

Age: 17

Height: 5' 9"

Personality: He's kind.  Or, tries to be.  He's got a short temper, and when he knows he can't control it, he'll just shut up and kind of curl in upon himself and rock back and fourth until he's figured it out.  Suffers from gelotophobia – fear of being laughed at.  Has an obsession with the old world, and has learned all he can about it.

History: He was raised like any other kid in their society, until one day he found a book on obesity from the old world and decided not to eat for a day.  He began thinking clearly, (cause their food is drugged) and brought together a group of people who didn't quite meet the norm to make his rebel group.  He has to lie about his age because under 18s aren't allowed to talk with over 18s.

The following stuff is mostly for me bc I need to develop these characters if i want to actually finish writing the book

Character's Name: Saul Lamm

Part I: Let's Start at the Beginning...

1. What's your name?
"Hello, I'm Saul."

2. Give me your full name...
"Saul Lamm?"

3. Do you have a nickname? If yes, what is it and how did you come to have it?
"No, no nickname."

4. What species are you? (Human, werewolf, etc? Or are you an alien?)
"Just human.  Nothing exciting."

5. Where/when were you born?
"Here in the city, November 22nd."

6. I see. And that would make your age...?
"Ah--" *blushes* "I'm only 17..."

7. Okay, now...are you a good guy, or a bad guy?
"Technically, by the government's standards, I'm a bad guy."

Part II: Tell Us More About Yourself...

8. How would you describe your personality?
"I don't know..."

9. Would you say you're someone who can handle pressure?
"No.  I try, really I do, but I'm still really bad at it."

10. Do you like to read?
"Yes!  Everything the government doesn't want us to know is in books.  Which is why we're never taught to read.  I found one of the old world's cities when I was exploring a while back-- it was really far away from our city, it took a day to walk there-- but there were so many books in this one building... which was called a... library, I think?  Anyway, they had a few books for younger children, teaching them how to read, so I went back there every day since I was ten, and have been teaching myself ever since.  Which, I suppose, is why I saw through the government.  They did it so much better in the old world-- the people actually got a say in what the government did!  It was amazing!"

11. Favorite color?
"Blue."

12. Do you get along with others?
"Not very well.  I try to, though."

13. Do you have any enemies?
"Of course."

14. How about friends?
"Yeah!"

15. Are you patient?
"Not really."

Part III: Hypothetically...

16. Suppose that you could become any creature you know of. What would you pick, and why?
"Um.  Something that could destroy the government."

17. One of your enemies in question 13 just complimented you. Response?
"They would kill me.  For multiple reasons.  I'm 17, and a rebel."

18. One of your friends in Question 14 just insulted you. Response?
"I get insults a lot."

19. If you could change anything about yourself...
"I'd be a year older."

20. About your home...
"My guardian is nice enough.  She hates how I leave for such long periods, but she doesn't have much of a choice in that."

Part IV: Now We Get Personal

21. What're your parents like?
"I don't know.  Never met them."

22. Do you have any siblings?
"Probably.  Never met them either."

23. What's your occupation?
"I don't have one.  I'm not allowed to work yet, and I'm a rebel, so."

24. I see, that's a good job to have. Do you like it?
"Sure, I guess."

25. Are you seeing/dating anyone?
"No."

26. Thinking about getting engaged, married, other?
"If I find the right person, and we've changed the government by then."

27. Tell us your biggest secret.
"Well, I've explained that I'm only 17 a couple times now.  My rebel group doesn't know that, though.  The government said something about children being a distraction, so we have to stop them from interacting with adults.  Honestly, I think they keep us separate because the government hasn't managed to successfully brainwash children yet.  They're just too curious."

28. Your worst fear? You don't have to answer this one if you don't want to.
"Failing everyone."

29. Favorite food?
"Um, whatever I can find.  But I've read a lot about old world food-- did you know they ate fish?  Those shiny things that swim in the ocean?  I've never seen the ocean in real life-- but the pictures look amazing.  Anyway, I can't eat the government's food, because they drug it.  I stopped eating it after... I think it was after I saw my first dead body?  But I stopped eating for a while, and my Guardian flipped out.  But I found after a few days, even though my stomach really hurt, my mind started to get clearer.  So I went back to the library and caught a few rats to eat-- just to see if my mind stayed clear-- and it did!  I guess after you turn 18, the government doesn't have to keep drugging your food, because the bread I've stolen from the market place is fine."

30. Favorite drink?
"I get water from my guardian, but I'm afraid to drink that in case the government's drugged that too.  There's not really anything else."

31. Tell us one thing you're the most proud of.
"I broke free of the government."

32. Something embarrassing? You don't have to answer this one, either.
"I-- I don't know."

33. If you didn't answer Questions 28 and/or 32, tell me why.
"I didn't want to answer 32."

34. Is that a good reason?
"Good enough."

Part V: Breaking the Fourth Wall
For these next few questions, I'll briefly remove the fourth wall between your world and your creator's. Try to remain calm.

35. Before I remove the fourth wall, tell me: would you be willing to accept the fact that you're actually a character?
"Sure."

36. Now the fourth wall's gone. Response?
"This... is this the old world?"

37. This is your creator's world. What's the first thing you notice?
"It's the old world, isn't it?  What year is it?"

38. You just met your creator! First impression of him/her?
Me: "Hi Saul."
Saul: "No!  It's the old world, right?"
Me: "Yeah.  Yeah, it is."
Saul: "It's amazing."

39. Okay, let's put the fourth wall back. See, that wasn't so bad, was it?
"Why can't I stay?"

Part VI: Closing

40. Are you satisfied with your life?
"Yeah, I guess."

41. Anything you feel like you have to do? It can be something long-term, like a bucket list, or something you need to do right now.
"I want to make our world more like the old world.  I want to protect everyone."

42. Any hobbies?
"Reading."

43. Quick, you get one wish! What did you just wish for? It's alright, you can tell me...
"The government to be overthrown.  Preferably by us."

44. How would you describe that wish? Good? Bad? Selfish? Selfless? Other?
"I think it's a good wish.  It would make everyone's life a lot easier.  I hope."

45. Have you been honest with these questions?
"Yeah."

46. Your personal quote?
"I don't know..."

47. Do you like change?
"We need change."

48. What's your most valued possession?
"My life?  The lives of my rebels?"

49. Anything else you feel like sharing?
"No, thanks."

50. Last question!...yup, that's it! How do you feel?
"Okay.  Bye!"
