"Sora?" A female voice asked quietly, "Why do you always watch the sunrise?" Sora, a blue Coinina looked down, his blue eyes filled with a strange look of sadness and happiness, "It helps me remember...My mother..." The sunrise's light sparkled orange and red and made everything seem warm. The girl Coinina was a light yellow with light green eyes, her ears tips white, "Your mother? You haven't mentioned her to me before." Sora looked away, his ears down, "I felt no need to, Starz." Starz looked disappointed. She wanted him to trust her. It felt important to her somehow, "You can tell me anything..." Sora looked up a little; his blue eyes seemed amused, "I know that. I just..." He looked up at the sunrise, "I don't believe in crying in front of girls. It makes men weak."
Starz shook her head, "That's just your pride. It's not a shame to cry. It makes you stronger." Sora looked at her, his eyes slid half closed, "...You're so persistent. It's like you want to hear my story." Starz looked away, feeling her face heat from his staring, "I...I do..." Sora sighed, although Starz didn't know why. "Fine. I'll tell you, but you have to promise you won't tell anyone I cried in front of you." Starz smiled, looking back up at him, "I promise." Sora smiled back, making Starz pulse race. "I trust you. You have never lied to me before. I don't expect you to now." Starz nodded and watched as Sora turned his attention back to the sunrise, as if it actually did help him remember. I was a normal small Coinina pup. I lived with my mother in a cave that covered in beautiful vines of green every spring. Mother loved to take me to the lake to bathe and hunt food. It was a beautiful place. White and lavender flowers blanketed the ground, attracting butterflies of every color. I loved chasing them, but never would try to bite them. Their beauty amazed me. I was happy in my home.
But in the dark of night, I started noticing my mother worrying. She always looked out into the void of night and seemed to be looking for something, ready to run at any moment. "Mommy, what are you looking for?" I asked in my innocents. Mom looked at me and smiled, "Nothing, Sora, just sleep." Her smile reassured me. I was young and couldn't interpret the fear in her eyes then, but now I understand her fears.
I lived my life like this for 4 years, happy, loved, and...safe. But that was about to change. That's when they came....
