Founded in 1835 as a temporary monastry on an ancient enclosure known as Tynt Meadow, the monastry we see today was designed by Augustus Pugin and opened in 1844,
It is a Roman Catholic monastic community of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (Trappist),
The monks brew the only Trappist beer produced in the UK called "Tynt Meadow".
