Something like that,
They progressing the situation with more emotion.
They think deeper into the situation or the task ahead of them.
They mentaly value the outcome of their future action and try to chose the best way to sucseed without less as possible harm to civiliants.
Also, they good inside yet they been ’force’ to do ’bad’ thing. It is a silent battle they fight and try to forgive themself for the action at the same time they feel guilty obviously.
So I guess you ( might ) try to reflect on the conflict what goes inside them and I love when you do that, it triggers me to run to them and hug them and if I would be able to help them I would in the heart beat.
I know Shay does it a few times in the game and the circumstance pretty much fits into any/one of the reason I listed above.
With Haytham ( much as I like him) never picked this lowering the lashes act, he is a different kind of material then Shay. He is processing in other ways.
On the other hand, they might just pause for the moment and sink into their peace...oh allas what am I talking about these poor Cormacs never have a break or tranquil moment.

I love what you wrote here. After I knew Shay's birthday I searched info about the nature of people born on that day. And i was happy to see those descriptions were just like Shay, so UBI didn't just pick a random day for him. The tarot of this day is the hanged man, as we know meaning self-sacrifice, just like Shay did, to do bad thing for good.
I wish he could finally find peace in his family...

well ever since I put the game in I picked this self -sacrificial motion up in Shay, even when he was an assassin. Since day one Shay is a man who constantly battle with his good concious. Try to reason himself the most why he act againt his nature.
I can not express enough, he is a very good man inside, his soul is a gilded treasure and what he does as a profession conflicting with it yet he fulfill every task the order required of him. Cudgel is a same, this goodness runs in the family.
What makes them volnurable this is why they are the quet type. They suffer inside they do not show this weakness. What is good in my book
