Phew! Finally it's done, and just in time - my entry to Draw My Character - ENDS TOMORROW 6 PM CESTcontest, featuring the beautiful Amelia Akari by Pandalifer chilling out in her castle garden at night time... in a swing above a pond because why not!
Even though I noticed the contest pretty early on, I was really busy for a couple months and had originally intended to draw a simple portrait of her face, but once I checked back to see how the contest was doing, I saw just how many, and how good entries there were already. I decided to step up my game a bit, and honestly, I'm super happy with the result and I'm so glad I went on to make a full body portrait instead. Yeah, I still got some learning to do when it comes to backgrounds (and roses) but truth be told, I really ran out of time with this piece. The wrist pain is coming back slowly but surely, and due to some issues with the tablet not working properly I missed two days of drawing this week, which I had intended to dedicate on this piece only. I may re-work the background a bit after the contest is over, but for now this will have to do. All in all though, happy with the result, and I really loved the character and hope I did her justice!

Your details on background and character both are beautiful.
Perhaps it's just me, but there's something wrong with the anatomy of the foot, I think.
It's funny that you say you need to practice backgrounds, since the trees in the background, and the circle-thing she's sitting on are my favourite parts of this picture

Oh, I see! I honestly do think the background is a bit messy but maybe it doesn't show as much in this resolution? I'd like to have it so that people could zoom in closer but only to see the face because of the time I spent drawing the character, but not to see the background, haha. Don't get me wrong though, I am happy with the colors especially and this is by far the best background I've ever drawn - not that I've drawn that many anyway, but I'm still happy with how it turned out.
And yeah I do see what you mean by something being a bit off with the foot. I was trying to draw it so that it appears to be barely underwater, but I'm not sure if that comes through. The ankle also does look pretty stiff for sure. Time to get some reference pictures for the next time, huh! Thanks for your comment though, I'm really happy to hear you liked my work!

Her toes are definitely under water. That's not the problem. It's the ankle as you say, and perhaps the heel. But I'm being super nitpicky.
It could be the resolution, yes. Or maybe you're a perfectionist about your art? Which I mean as a compliment... I'm super obsessive myself.
You could always post a close-up of the face, where you crop it so you only see the face/head 
My Monday class art teacher is trying to knock something into my head that I'll pass on: Figure out where the focus should be, and then concentrate the detail work there. If the background isn't the important part, then it's ok to leave it messy and sort of faded. The non-important stuff shouldn't take away from the centre-piece.

Haha, that would actually be pretty awesome - the close up picture. I might have to consider that.. And yeah, it is true that the "unimportant" parts can often be left pretty rough. I think I should find another brush for the "roughness" though, as whenever I try to use that method the rough simply looks unfinished and not like, good texture. I used to use a lot of blurring effect to combat that, but it doesn't really fix the issue.

This is so incredibly well done, I adore this, even the roses !! She looks so strong and powerful, and the image has such good shading
and a bunch of details you have to study the picture to catch them all.
