I know it's taken me ages to comment on this one, but I've held onto it in my devWatch so I can peek at it a couple of times

this is just the reason why I want a wide-angle lens. This is the 10-22mm right?
Everything just grabs my eye on this shot, the sharp angles, the vivid colours, the "i'm going to fall over" composition

you just may have convinced me to buy another lens...*sigh* next financial year (only a month and a bit away!)

yes i highly recommend a wide lens. so much fun. i got my sigma 12-24mm lens before there was a 10-22mm available. but, i'd recommend the 10-22mm to you

I never thought SUCH distorted angles were possible with 12mm. I saw a book with 12mm angle lense being used but it didnt appear that distorted, more that way with an 8mm so I'm sorta curiouse about this whole "full sensor" thing mixed with the lens your talking about

I'm thinking about getting myself somthing like a Canon 350d DSL... Is it at all possible to get teh same sort of effects?

Amazing distortion there! youve used the angles and lines well, and the colour is also amazing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

superkev In reply to beanarts [2006-04-11 19:12:43 +0000 UTC]

this lens provides the same field of view on my 5D as it would on a 35mm film camera. maybe the book you saw was taken with a medium format camera, in which case 12mm wouldn't distort that much. with the 350d you'll have to use a wider lens to get the same effect. basically you'd need a 7.5mm lens to have the same field of view as this because the 350D has a smaller sensor. i used this lens on my 10D with the same sized sensor as the 350D, and still the results are quite dramatic. just not as wide as this

Love the harshness of it all, tames a little by that clear sky. Wow, I was expecting so see that this was with a fisheye in the exif, but 12mm! I mean, that's wide but I guess the full sensor has a part to play in that. Very cool shot!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

superkev In reply to niimo [2006-04-11 04:41:22 +0000 UTC]

yep, the sigma 12-24mm is rectilinear, so no fisheye effect
