Wow!

What did you use for lighting?

superkev In reply to Firedraik [2006-11-06 04:21:35 +0000 UTC]

i used a big flashlight to "paint" the boathouse and the boat. the rest was lit by the moon

Quiet? No. But then maybe it's just your thought that are so loud.
I love the fog in the distance. It makes everything seem so liminal. Another great shot from this area with gorgeous colors and infinite imagination. You've certainly proven your versatility, from Studio shots, to Urban Settings, to Lansdcapes. You rock!

Quiet indeed, but is it peacful, or just the quiet before the storm?
The mysteries of a moonlit night are neverending!
I think its about a third stop overexposed - would have added mystery (but you have to see it to judge...).

superkev In reply to yori1976 [2006-09-17 14:29:23 +0000 UTC]

thanks! i'll play with the exposure a bit (it's shot in RAW so i can adjust).

That's my opinion and just an idea - in the end its your own opinion that counts (and you better have one if you want to call yourself and artist...)

Awesome job, I really like how the reflection goes along nicely with the whole shot and isn't marred by the waters rigidity. The composition, the horizon and everything looks perfect! Keep up the fantastic work that you do!

I half expect someone standing in the dark in this.
For some reason it reminds me of Gregory Crewdson's work as well.
Maybe it is the intesitivity of the night and that gorgeous blue.

"Gregory Crewdson is the leading figure in a major movement in photography, one that favors fantasy over realism and is often inspired by the cinema." from [link] I am no leading figure, but I do like the ideas, and the fantasy inspired by cinema thing was exactly what I was thinking when I shot this. Thanks for the kind comparison and intro to Crewdson!

it has such a calming effect on many -- the simplicity of the photo is the key -- but wait -- look behind -- the photographer awaits -- like the colours captured -- a beautiful place -- later days

its never quiet up there... the whole parry sound, huntsville north bay is area is fucking sketchy... beautiful scenery, wonderful untouched land... untill you hit residential areas... trucks and spare parts everywhere...

these last two have been nice captures though. I know how hard it is to take shots by moonlight... so bravo

You suck your so good

So how do you get the nice rich blue colors...is it a matter of wb or time of day...or atmosphere...or ancient chinese secret

[link] is my attempt at night time...look at what you have me doing thanks btw...usually when the sun went down I packed it in...now i have even more photos to take

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

superkev In reply to kaymanism [2006-09-15 04:02:05 +0000 UTC]

haha... yeah it's partially a matter of white balance, although the natural color of the sky is pretty close to this picture. it's just darker in real life. the auto white balance in my camera got the WB all wrong, so i had to correct for it in capture one. i was helped quite a bit by the full moon, which was quite bright. it allowed me to shoot this scene at ISO 400 instead of the ISO 800 i had to use on the previous shot i posted when the moon was below the treeline behind me. during the 30 second exposure, i used a big flashlight to paint some details into the boathouse, and also to just lightly paint the boat in the foreground right.
