Description
I liked Gear 4 well enough. It's cool. I guess people's expectations on Oda creating something so creative like a completely revamped usage of Luffy's power. Accelerating blood flow, inflating bones, and now this! So I guess expectations were bound to be beyond reason. The week break before the next chapter release certainly didn't help either.
I'm bringing all of this up because I think some people weren't happy with the design when they initially saw it. But I liked the design when I saw it. I admit I wasn't sure how I felt about the tribal tattoo look on his chest but it's grown on me. Otherwise I like the round shape, the dark outlines around his eyes, his humongous arms, tiny feet (One Piece characters should seriously stop skipping leg day), and of course the slight change in the way the haki limbs were drawn brought the whole look together.
Also, I should mention that I intentionally didn't draw Luffy's sunflower coat and replaced it with a dark blue one...I don't really have any proper reasoning beyond that I didn't care for that coat very much.
