yeah it was a compliment actually . " you're a trip" used to mean you are cool , but the african-americans[ blacks] and puerto ricans[hispanics who descended from an american island by same name] who are so into the " gangsta" or hip hop music scene made it into a bad word. [when they say " you be trippin' nigga" they mean acting crazy or " buggin" and are usually making fun of you! ] this because they don't like those who act and dress different then they do LOL "you're a trip" still means " you're awesome " in hippie culture [ grateful dead, nirvana, green day scene] though; and with this dumb ass WAR IN IRAQ and all that HIP HOP[ POP] CONFORMITY; I think it is back in style! at least with those who HATE[ US president] GEORGE W BUSH ANYWAY!
