During the Masked Men's attack on the village, Tamafune's mother Mihoko was badly injured by one of the invaders. For a few days it was feared that she may die. Tamafune felt helpless und useless, like she couldn't protect her family at all. Tamafune and her mother never got along all that well, as Mihoko had always wanted her to be more disciplined. When Mihoko got injured her father Hogai, told her to care for her mother while he's helping out the village in anyway he can. Tamafune's daily responsibilities included feeding her, changing her bandages, and helping her get up. Thus they talked a lot more about their relationship and they grew closer as mother and daughter.

The following years were hard emotionally and physically. She was helping her father rebuild the village and also still caring for her mother. The fact that Tarou was dead and the absence of the new Akarikage Akihiko left both Tamafune and her family to fret about the future. Being unsure of where she wanted to go with her own future, Tamafune figured out that she needed something she can work towards, a goal, maybe find a place where she felt like belonged, where she doesn't feel useless and people would see how much she cared about protecting the village and everyone that lived in it. So the next step is to work towards becoming a master in the clan specialty Taiyo Senshi.
