This actualy makes me feel sad. It does seem like suicide attempt, however you did mention it is not due the the height and age. :/ The lighting from the top right corner to me, insinuates a heaven like feeling which supports death and saddness feeling.

hmmm thats very sad. . . maybe when it comes down to it, no matter what we say we all want to be remembered somehow? and that is the last effort to have people recognize them, and care about them. . . i think if that was the way i would do it i would leave my shoes too. . .like hey. i was here. i did it. . and i wonder how long it will take anyone to notice. . much less care.

Oh, this actually made me feel sick to my stomach when I saw it. It took a moment to really process it, even though I recognized what the shoes meant from my studies of Japanese culture (the shoe thing doesn't happen in America). I think maybe because they're child's sized, it took me so long. For some reason, it was more impacting than I thought it would be.
I would like to think this photo is through the eyes of someone who is looking at the water anxiously, searching, waiting for the body. I don't know, but that's what it feels like to me.

This picture terrifies me. A picture that conveys the stillness of life and death.

I really like this and it evokes a lot of emotion for me.
I wrote a poem about drowning oneself once... though I'm not sure why you'd care >.<
But yeah, I love this. So much.

"for sale. baby shoes. never worn."
from a bet ernest hemingway made that he could tell a complete story in less than (10?) words. a complete work of fiction in six words.
your photo feels like that too, not just because of the subject but because of the story it tells, maybe a different one to every viewer, and maybe one that leaves them thinking and wondering.

I suppose that removing one's shoes may seem logical. Thinking about water flowing between your toes is more pleasant than thinking about what is actually going to happen - you crashing on the surface of said water!
And perhaps there is a will to purificate self that translates into one not getting back to the simplicity of having naked feet.
I guess that this goes well with the sunset in the picture :/ Sounds like more of an escape to another place than a death.

The poor child. Was she playing, or was the death intentional? (Assuming she jumped off this bridge.)

I really like the open ended nature of this shot. Maybe she jumped or maybe she just left her shoes on the rail and is playing nearby. It could also be interpreted in multiple symbolic ways.

I LUV IT.. though it makes me wonder.. the ripples in the water are just creepy... did the baby fall in, was the baby abducted.. It FEELS like that moment when a mother would look around and realize her child was gone..

This kinda freaked me out and made me want to cry... I'm not sure if you meant it but it made me think of suicide, and because they're a child's shoes it's like innocence lost or something.

yea i guess its natural for a human to take their shoes off before going to the water, and suicide is no exception.
