This is really cool. Colored pencils are kind of hard, but you controlled them really well here.

this is amazing.
So what colors do you use for the skin? Cause I recently started coloring with pencils and its so hard for me to figure out which colors to use :S
also, do you draw the sketch with a normal pencil and then color over it? wont the pencil smudge? thank yu!

SvenjaLiv In reply to LauraWestphal [2011-09-09 19:56:02 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a million!
The skin is a mix of a few different colours. I used Prismacolours here, and I have a few skin-like tones - beige, rose peach, light oxide red, and eggshell for the more yellow parts. For the darker areas I added dark browns, mostly raw umber. Generally, for skin, I use something like peach or beige, and then darken it with brown.
And the pencil does smudge, yeah. Usually I sketch with a pencil, then lay in my colours, and then if I need to sharpen the details I'll use pencil again. Eric's face is a good example - I sketched it, layered in the colours, and then used a pencil to draw most of the fine shadows and details like his eyes, etc.
I hope that helps some! If you have more questions, just ask!
