Commentary:I really like this page. It didn’t give me any trouble when I drew it, and I think the composition is pleasing.
Here, we see the clock from the very first panel of the first page, but it’s not broken yet. Also, another reminder of what time it is in the moment. A little bit of time has passed since the previous page. We also have a clearer look for the window, which is oddly designed. As you’ll see later, all the other windows in the house are square and standard sizes.
I wonder if you can read the poster? I wonder if someone knows what it means?
In this page, you really start to see a trend of Dominique invading Tristam’s panels. Inversely, Tristam never invades another panel. He always stays in his box. In this instance, he’s not invading a panel, he IS a panel.
Personally, I find this to be the creepiest page. Maybe not the most disturbing, but it’s one that gives me shivers. How ‘Nique forces a smile onto Tristam’s face, and the fact that he’s smiling is enough to convince her, at least, in the moment. Even if she is the one tugging at the corner of his lips.
I made some usual tweaks to the original dialogue written by the author, but I added a whole extra one here, for personal reasons. And to better foreshadow future events.
“You act like you don’t want it, but I know you,” is one of the most terrible things I’ve ever heard anyone say, when you have the context behind it. But it’s a quote lifted from a survivor’s account of when they were victimized.
I kind of wish we had a chance to see a cute, innocent Dominique before we see this current, corrupted expression that she’s giving in the penultimate panel. It’s not as jarring this way, but it’s still unsettling to look at.
