What he's protecting her from, we'll never know, but it's probably not Azula. Could be, but....could be anybody.I actually drew this before I drew the "Protector" pic ([link] ), but the reference was still more or less the same (a few frames' difference). What can I say, I'm a sucker for the "knight in shining armor" concept. And Hitsugaya's Momo-protection rules.
These are the days when Mai might have actually needed protecting, though. XD
Colored and submitted tonight for three reasons...
1. I wanted to focus on SOMETHING, and Latin wasn't holding my interest.
2. An incident earlier today that I've been completely kicking myself over and over and over again that I wasn't more firm and defensive. Basically, I completely failed in my responsibilities as an older brother. [hangs head in shame]
3. There was a good piece of Maiko fanart put up today, so I decided to add another one...spread the love!

You know, schoolyard bullies or something, picking on the quiet girl and all that...Mai seems like she'd be something of a "pushover" at school; she doesn't fight or anything, but she just takes the simple way out. If she's not hungry, fine, they can have her lunch, better than her getting in trouble for fighting or something. Azula and Ty Lee probably stuck up for her most of the time--I can see those three getting into mischief together, because, hey, if Princess Azula's leading the pack, you can't complain.

Ah to be the quiet shy girl...never fun. Girls like that draw the bullies from the woodwork...if my own memories serve correctly. Yeah I'd imagine not too many people would pick on the Princess's inner circle...once that alliance is established anyway. Course Azzie probably WAS one of the mean girls, so Mai might have been safe...as safe as someone that near to Azula ever is at any rate. I can see Zuko sticking up for her when he can...though admittedly it wouldn't be at school. I very much doubt the boy ever attended the royal fire nation academy for girls, after all.

maybe its the hour, maybe its the sugar rush (Candy Corn Soda...stuffs insane), or maybe its the AWS but I have such the most hilarious mental image of a parent teacher conference Ursa would have to go to for her daughter...kinda like for Vicky from Fairly Odd Parents. She'd have the teachers terrified, the other kids terrified, ah good times.
As for Zuko, well I can imagine he'd go with his mummy to pick up Azula and friends possibly, but if he went alone, he'd probably vanish with out a trace, leaving his poor distraught sibling one step closer to the throne. And his precious adorable sweet well mannered perfect little sister would have NOTHING to do with it, she'd readily tell.

Worst part is, it's hard for me to take the blame for it.
It completely shot my day. Like...completely.
The old "I need bus money" con. "I need bus money to Harrisburg, nineteen dollars..." Unfortunately, my brother had a twenty halfway out of the wallet, and I think he panicked. He'd just given a five, which was...semi-okay...but he revealed the twenty and panicked and that was that.
And I found myself thinking of twenty things I should have done afterwards. So, yeah.
That's the rant I haven't put out today. This thing helped get some of that out of my system, though....

I think Mai would enjoy it as a kid...later-on, maybe a bit ticked, but if it's a choice between that or a lightning bolt....
