Description Happy Mother's Day!

Yes, on the day where every Avatard and their mom is making Ursa pics, I continue with the devotion to my favorite Avatar lady by drawing Mai's mother. And Tom-Tom. Who has evidently been left unattended with a brush and ink--Mai's getting an earful right now, or else is about to.

"Is it too much to ask for you to keep an eye on him for five minutes?"

The title is actually derived from the Avril Lavigne song of the same name--this is the latest in the series. You're not just going to see the popular ladies in this saga, there are going to be more minor ones in here. I had intended to do those ones later, but hey, it's Mother's Day, this is my tribute to mothers. I originally planned the pic around "Is it too much to ask" for a smile from Mai, and I wanted Mai in the pic originally--but then I felt that that would distract from the focus, and decided to leave it open-ended. But Tom-Tom worked his way in, followed by the brush, and thus....well, this line is actually the universal line of mothers everywhere! Full-view!

This one is mainly from reference. The lineart is almost exactly the same as the first sequence with Mai's mom, complete with Tom-Tom. The brush and banner are pretty much the only things I didn't use reference for--yes, even the marks were reffed, using one of the many, many murals adorning our house's walls and corners. It's based on REAL designs by destructive babies with markers who were left unattended for more than sixty seconds while a marker was in reach. His face markings are mainly from memory--they don't limit themselves to walls, kids. Hehe.

Mai's art is giving me a bit more trouble. She's hard to draw, I thought I had her, but I lost it, and now she's being a more artistic menace than Tom-Tom. But I'm dealing with it....I'm just trying to settle on the final design for the "Slipped Away" pic with Mai. It's more than a simple matter of settling on a pose, this is a big pic for me...but this is the pic in question, not that one.

I drew it at 1:30 in the morning, finished around three....inked it this afternoon, and then scanned and colored it in Paint throughout the same afternoon. I hate lips. But I love my Sharpie.

Mai's mom and Tom-Tom are copyright Viacom, along with Mai. Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mike, Bryan, and all that stuff.
The pic is mine, but it was HEAVILY referenced. The colors came from screencaps.

Even though she's scolds Mai, her words will just go through her ear and out the other. Mai is used to that so her Shibai (fan name for Mai's mom) won't get to her anymore.

Ha, at first I was going to comment about how there must be very few Mai's Mom fan arts out there, but you have a point about it being a popular Mother's Day theme. I love the way her eyebrow curves up, LOL.

Heh. Thanks!

Yeah, not much of this lady. She doesn't even have a NAME.

That's why it's so much fun! And Mai's little brother sure is a cutie!

Aw, Tom-Tom was just having fun Mrs...Mai's Mom! Haha! I always imagined the little tyke doing something like that, then Mai is called on and scolded--rolling her eyes the whole way. "It IS too much to ask, Mom."

Ahaha! I saw the pic! It's so adorable--and so starkly familiar...hmm. Mai should consider changing her hairstyle around her little brother; though I'm sure he'd find other objects to tug around Mai...sharp ones.

Really? I had no idea! Either way, it's a really cute picture. Mai's poor mom must be so harassed with a devious toddler and a surly teenager to look after, seeing as her delegations backfire on her...And you are most welcome of course!

Plus a bunch of his older siblings. Each one has left their mark on the walls....

Tad gave the design for the marks, though.

Driving force of it all, driving force....it doesn't help with the pageviews, really, but it helps with my artistic craving.

This is so cute.
Tomtom would totally do that.
The color job and shading look nice.

Thanks for commenting! ^_^

Sadly, Yes. Some of my walls still need to be repainted. Those magic erasers aren't as magic as they claim to be. XD

Hehehe....I don't think there's a wall in our house that's easily visible that is unmarked.

Hahaha. Cute. Tom-tom is somehow even more adorable in this one than he was in the line art.

Gosh, I just barely remember drawing on the wall with my sister when we were little, though she was older than me, it was probably her idea, and we blamed it on some guy we made up specifically for that purpose and whose name I don't recall. Our parents thought it was funny though.

Ha, yes, it all makes perfect sense now.

I hardly remember those days, and I have no idea what we drew, and I'm very surprised that I remember that at all. For some reason, though, I do (fairly) clearly remember the real house that we decided the made up vandal lived in, which was a white town house with a high wooden fence, next to a particularly long traffic light that was on our way into the city.

Wow this is beautiful. And any Mom (or babysitter) can appreciate what Mai and Tom-Tom's mother is going through at the moment...All I have to say on that is thank God Crayola wised up and put out washable markers...

As for my Mother's Day Pic...which heh, will run a wee bit late, Ursa didn't even come to my mind...Katara's mother did. And then her Gran-Gran too. So I guess the two of us will be unique from all the Ursa art I'm sure will be out there at somepoint

Yay!

Yeah, babysitters and moms....and kids and walls. Because it really only takes thirty seconds for it to be all over.

I guess the funny thing is that he would have had to dip it into the inkwell over and over and over again....

Looking forward to yours!

Oh yeah. I remember my first non sibling babysitting job and the marker and wall incident. I go to help the ten year old reach the toothpaste and his four year old sister climbed over the baby gate and finds a set of markers...not pretty...not pretty at all...

Thanks, I look forward to finishing it and getting it up here. So far it looks pretty good, but I'm cut off from my ink pens until later this afternoon
