Description More pony fanart (you saw this coming, right??) It won't be the last of it either. I just had to draw Lunacorn (my OC) with Fluttershy too, because she's my absolute fave from the show, and also because I have pretty much the same personality, fears and quirks as Fluttershy does. Here Luna and 'Shy are being introduced to each others' "pets", with Angel Bunny begrudgingly shaking Luna's hoof (after much convincing), and Actias (Luna's pet moth), flying straight over to greet Fluttershy's cutie mark rather than 'Shy herself, much to her amusement.

Btw, will be selling prints and the original of this at Coscon as well as the original of "Luna Amicitia" , if anyone is interested.

Note: Fluttershy & Angel Bunny are © HASBRO and , and both chars are done in my own version of the FiM style, so my apologies if they don't look exactly as they do on the show.

Thanks! She's not a kirin, though, but a medieval-style unicorn. swandog.deviantart.com/art/Lun…

I read in your comments section that this is coloured pencil on markers. How do you mange? It looks so soft! Did you choose bright markers and shade with coloured pencil? And did you only use one dark/dull colour for the entire picture, or do you actually have pink on pink and yellow on yellow?
I definitely need to try this technique. Gorgeous piece.

Yes, I use a marker base for all my colored pencil work now, because the texture of paper (even the smoothest bristol) is grainy, and colored pencils cannot fill in all the tiny pits in the paper, no matter how hard you press, or how many layers you add. The markers fill in those pits, so that the colors can be smooth overall, with no white specks/graininess. And you have to use the markers first, because the wax of the pencils doesn't allow for the markers to absorb much into the paper, especially if you'd added a ton of wax via several pencil layers (aka "burnishing"). I generally use soft-colored markers (pastels and light greys/browns) as my base, and add the darker colors with pencils, because darker colors are so much easier to mess-up with, and at least with pencils, you can erase it. The brightest highlights (and also for any marker mistakes) I use white gel pen for, but I also use very light-colored pencils. All the linework, coloring, shading and highlighting in this particular image was traditionally done, but afterwards, I did a bit of digital smoothing with the smudge tool to make it even softer, because the gradients of the sky and grass didn't come out quite as smooth as I'd hoped.

Jo-san In reply to swandog [2012-04-03 19:17:39 +0000 UTC]

That's clever. I used coloured pencils on my last picture and I thought the line art turned out so good. Then I coloured it, and well, this time I wasn't really going for the grainy look. -_-;
I only use my markers (ProMarkers) on a certain paper. It is very smooth and thin, and I dare not use them on any other paper should it absorb all the colour in the pencil. For the piece I am currently working on I stuck my pencil line art into the scanner and copied it over onto that marker paper. It seems to work surprisingly well, but it doesn't look as crisp as your image.

wow!

I sometimes try to give some feedback to the artists when I fave their art work, but this time it's pretty difficult to critique anything here. I don't want to post a "this is awesome!" comment here, but this time seems like I couldn't resist.

Such wonderful, detailed yet not overwhelming details and lines, such a lovely coloration. The composition is very sweet, telling something about innocence and friendship- but the most important thing I notice about your wonderful art work (regarding to your whole gallery in gernal now is, that you truely love and enjoy what you're doing.
There's something truely adorable and honest in your art work, especially in this one.

This makes your art work kinda special, because most artists just ant to "create epic stuff", without putting heart in it.
Your art work seems like you let it tell it's own story without trying "sooo hard" to force it to "be pure epicness"- but there's heart in it.
That's why it is actually so epic!

I like that!

(Eep, so sorry I didn't comment before now, but in my inbox, the "wow" was the only part of this comment I saw, so I thought that was all it. And please don't get me wrong; I really appreciate getting one-word comments too, but unfortunately don't have the time or energy to respond to all comments, so I try to focus on replying to the longer, more in-depth ones and to any questions asked.)

Thank you so very much for your feedback on this, and yes, I definitely do try to put my heart and soul into each and every thing that I create, and since I "wear my heart on my sleeve", my art tends to as well, and I love drawing and telling a story with my art. To me, that's what art is for: to tell a story and convey feelings without words. Whether it's a happy picture, or sad, or angry, I want the viewer to feel what I feel when they see it, and hopefully for it to leave an impression on them that they will remember. And even if the feelings conveyed in the art are negative ones, the image that conveys them can still be beautiful, if also poignant and haunting. But most of my art tends to be happy, because I want, more than anything, to make others happy...so I'm very glad to know that it's left such an impression on you. Thank you.

In the US, theres a medicine (I forgot its name), and in the commercials their mascot is a green glowing butterfly.

You can see them in the eastern and southeastern woods of the US. We had them where I grew up in TX. The moth in this pic is based off the Indian Moon Moth, which is a type of Luna Moth from Asia and India.

Pretty gallery! Though I wouldn't be the one to give any critique on it, as I know next to nothing about fractals and how they're made. I have faved a few in the past, but usually because I just liked the pastel color combo of them.

You like my gallery, and you heard about fractals That's opinion enough If you don't feel spammed, below some recycled info about fractals:

First: Check out the zoom sequences (only images) from page 4 in the pdf's [link] and [link] . The end motives are my deviations [link] and [link]

Second: In my journal [link] you have some links to short cool fractal animations I stumbled over at YouTube

Third: If you wanna try some free simple fractal software, go to my journal [link]

Fourth: Wikipedia has a nice site [link]

Fifth: Maybe you would appreciate my "Chaotic series of fractal articles" [link] if you have a little theoretical interest

You may have the above as a resource
