Trivial historical info for those who might not know: the ship depicted is the Mayflower, which carried the Pilgrims to Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. Not one of Columbus' ships.

Well if you think about it, everybody use to think the Earth was flat (some still do) until Christopher Columbus proved them wrong.

i think the greeks thought the earth was round thousands of years ago, nomads who had been in both hemispheres would be able to infer the same thing but for some reason the flat earth idea was still around in europe in Columbus time
