Description It was a few minutes before I realized I could move again. I slumped down in the snow, no longer able to stand. What was that right there? I felt so… so, gone. Not even part of me any longer. It wasn’t a bad feeling but new to me. How could a girl do this to me? I sat there in the snow wondering for awhile till I started feeling how cold it was. I slowly got up and brushed the snow off my black pants. ‘Should have worn more clothes,’ I thought to myself as I looked over the crazy outfit I had chosen. My trench coat had not done much in the wind, and my pants were soaked from all the snow. I brushed a few askew flakes off my black button up shirt and pulled my jacket tighter around. What was I thinking wearing such clothes that where defiantly not fit for winter? But then again, I hadn’t counted on chasing after some ghost dream girl. I started shaking and rubbed my hands together. Should I go back to town? I looked back down the direction I was sure I had come from. The path seemed to be different. You couldn’t even see past the trees. They seemed to make up an impenetrable wall. ‘Well, that plan seems to be out.’ I stood there for a moment, running my hands through my auburn wavy hair. I was trapped in a cemetery, with no way out and no idea what to do next about it. I turned slowly back to the gate that blocked me from the mausoleum. ‘I suppose…’ I placed a hand on the gate. Should I risk whatever lay beyond this gate? I took a deep breathe in and pulled on the steel bar.
It didn’t open as easily as I had suspected. The snow stuck at the bottom and I had to push with my other hand to make a crevice big enough for my body to slip through. The bars were icy cold and I felt them on the back of my neck as I attempted to make my way through. It raised the hairs on my neck and then I was on the other side. The uneasy cold feeling that the cold bars had given me did not go away as I started what seemed like the longest walk to the mausoleum. The soft snow crunched reluctantly under my feet, and the wind ruffled my already wind tossed hair. ‘This doesn’t seem like such a good idea anymore.’ I thought as I had passed yet another statue that seemed more intrigued with watching me then standing still. But then I heard something.
A faint sound was flowing over the wind. I stopped dead in my tracks and strained my ears to listen. A soft sound was flowing around me and it warmed my very innards. What was that melodic echo? There was only one thing I knew for sure. That it had to be her. She must be in there playing something. My heart took a giant leap in my throat and I had to fight to swallow my nervousness back down. There’s nothing to worry about, I mean, it’s just a girl right. But I knew she wasn’t just any girl. She was perfect. Everything about her. I had to find her. I started running to the mausoleum now. Maybe it was the cold that edged me on but I don’t think so. I wanted to see her. It was as simple as that.
I got to the stone steps and stepped lightly on them. She had stood here and it made my face flush just how she had easily walked on them as if walking on air. The stones shifted under my feet and I was a bit clumsily tripping up them. I hit my face on the cool stone and my face stung. I reached my hand to my cheek and felt something warm. I must have cut my face on the sharp edge of the stair. ‘Great.’ I thought. What else could happen? I brushed off the dirt that had gotten on me and got to the top of the stairs. I went over to the pillar she had been so close too. I felt it’s stone surface, rough. My hands were numb as they traced the area I saw her hand place it’s self on. There seemed to be a little outline of where her hand had been. Like frozen in the stone of the pillar for many millennia. Of course that was crazy, since I had just seen her do it not but 5 minutes ago. I pushed myself away from the pillar and approached the door. The resonance of that soulful melody wafted its way through the keyhole of the door. I had to find out what it was. I placed my already frozen hand on the door knob, took a deep breath in, and pushed the door in.
