This is my flag for the minority of the German-Danes who live in the very north of Germany in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. They speak the Sønderjysk dialect (or South Jutlandic in English) of the Danish language which is distinctively different from the Standard Danish language.
The flag is a mixture of the Danish Flag and the Flag of the German Empire which colours had a special north-German connotation.

In my alternate history the German-Danes are one of the lingual minorities in the German State and are highly integreated into the society and are like all minorites billingual but in daily use speak their language. In School Standard-German as a subject is mandatory for the whole school-career so that the German-Danes have all oppertunities open to them in German society. All other subjects are taught in their standardized dialect which adopted a few rules concerning the letter "s" and adopted the destictive-German letter of "ß". Furthermore Sønderjysk always uses German names in matters like specific terms in science. These were the only alterations made to insure a smoother integration into Germany as a whole.

The language itself and the flag of the German-Danes is proteced by the German federal and the state constitutions which are avaible in the dialect, like all institutions and publications of the State. Basically every institution of the Reich should respond in the language or dialect used by the Reich citizen. The only exception to this is the military in which its command language is only German for reasons of clear communication with every member of the military. When in no active or official role it's of course allowed and proteced by law to uses one's native tongue.

The German policy and handling of its minorities lead to them seeing themselves as a disinct but natural part of the German people, culture and state. There even exsist the cultural norm by all German minorites to always use Standard-German when someone around them doesn't speak their native-tongue.
