The word "epic" is sorely overused. I, myself, am exceedingly guilty of such a crime. So when one sees a piece that IS truely "epic," then the word no longer holds the same weight. Much like when we're waiting around and say "Gosh, I've been waiting a million years" and it turns out we've been waiting an hour.
So I'm looking at this piece and the color and the composition as well as the phenomenal artistic expertise and the genuine word "epic" comes to mind and yet I can't hardly bring myself to use it because I know "epic" isn't quite enough... and yet, I can't think of anything weighty enough that would be more appropriate. So if you please, erase from your memory the usage of the word from everything unworthy you've ever heard and apply it with fresh understanding to this piece. Thank you.

You see, the first actual surgery was the removal of hookworms. Hookworms are a parasitic worm that borrow into barefeet, through the leg, and out of a boil in the thigh. The doctor would wrap the emerging hookworm around a small stick, and, over several days, slowly pull the worm out. This, I guess, was associated with Caduceus.
