JUDGED! See here for results: MS Awareness Event 16-17 : RESULTS
The Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Event 2016-2017 - CLOSED!
DEADLINE EXTENDED!
The reason for this is that my internship ends on May 9th, so I wont be able to judge this event before that anyways. So I might just as well extend this for a bit.
NEW DEADLINE: MAY 10TH, 2017
Opens today. October 15th, 2016.
I want to publish the results and the calendar on World MS Day, which was on May 25th this year, and will be around the same day next year.
No preregistration needed. Simply draw your image and post a link under this journal.
So you may or may not have seen this poll of mine ...which started out as a kind of a joke. But then I thought about it, and concluded this might actually be a pretty neat idea.
I have seen a lot of awareness-themed events out there, but since my mother suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (she was diagnosed in 1994), I thought it would do no harm in putting the focus on this incurable disease.
What is Multiple Sclerosis?
To quote the National MS Society:
"Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. The cause of MS is still unknown – scientists believe the disease is triggered by as-yet-unidentified environmental factor in a person who is genetically predisposed to respond.
The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease."
The website has the information in Spanish too, and a video explaining further what kind of illness this is.
On the case of my mother: She is 57 years old, and has walking problems. She needs either a walking stick or a wheeled walker to walk, though she needs the walker more often than the stick. In the house she can walk without, because there are enough things for her to hold on to. Her bedroom is upstairs, and she manages the stairs alright - her physiotherapist says it´s a good exercice, and as long as she can take the stairs, she will take them. But for days on which her legs decide to throw a tantrum - our sofa in the living room actually converts into a comfortable single bed, so she can sleep comfortably without having to take the stairs. (It also makes a super guest bed. Just saying.)
Other things she has: she has difficulty seeing things sometimes. She wears glasses and already had poor eyeseight before she was diagnosed, but sometimes the illness worsens it all. When she takes a shower, she just wraps in her bathrobe and sits there for over half an hour because it physically exhausts her so much. She is incontinent and wears adult diapers 24/7 because the illness made it impossible for her to hold her pee for much longer than 20 seconds on most days. She has trouble hearing - which she doesn´t want to admit because she is too stubborn, but I´m not the only one who noticed. Sometimes she has trouble holding on to things, and her handwriting has become atrocious.
And she still has it fairly good - we know far worse cases. One of our closer friends is far younger than my mother, and completely paralyzed; the only thing she can move is the left side of her tongue.
Here is my mum, at a family gathering, with a jacket that makes me jealous (to be fair - I picked it for her). She used her walking stick only that day.
What kind of event is this?
This is an event that will focus more on your stable crew than on your horses! Because why not? We often put as much thought and love in creating our stable staff as we do in creating our horses, so they deserve a bit of spotlight.
Of course, there is nothing speaking against putting your horses into the pic as well! That way you could raise awareness and maybe nag a few points in whatever ranking system applies to your pon. :3 That´s why there are only halter classes.
The colour of Multiple Sclerosis is orange, so using this colour in one way or the other will be mandatory.
The three classes will be:
The Hot Stable Crew Shoot. This will be where the focus will be mainly on the stable crew. We are aiming to get enough shots to produce a calendar that will be sold in my stable´s shop to raise money for various MS foundations. This calendar will exist in the storyline of my stable only; there won´t be a physical calendar. I won´t be making any money of it, I can assure you. I will however make printable calendar sheets so you can print it for yourself if you like.
- This event is +18 only. If your stable member comes from a country in which the legal age is set to 21, it will be +21 only for you. Sorry!
- You, as participant, agree that I do turn this into a calendar sheet. Proper credit will be given.
- While this shoot is aimed to be more on the erotic side, you decide how much you want to show. If you want to go sensuality over sexuality, then that´s the way to go for you. Sometimes the way a person looks at you is way sexier than the display of unclothed body parts, however tasteful it may be.
- If you decide to depict nudity, please be sure to respect deviantArt´s policies, and use the Mature Content Filter accordingly.
- It is up to you what exactly you want to depict - the general setting will be the stable, and you are welcome to include parts of the costuming used for halter as well. Plus you can include your horses (washing your horse in a wet white shirt anyone? )
- Couples can be depicted as well, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. Just keep it tasteful.
- You can enter as often as you like. Have fun!
Costumed Adult Halter. Pretty self-explanatory. Because adults like to dress up too!
- The theme of this Costumed Adult Halter will be: Victorian fashion. And this includes Gothic Victorian.
- Allowed for this will be people aged 16 and up.
- Allowed are ponies and horses older than 1.5 years, , of every breed (fantasy breeds included).
- Horses can be decorated as well.
- This is a halter class, so you may show your horse getting handled, or your character standing next to it...whatever fits the theme.
- Some part of the costuming and the horse´s gear need to be orange, if not all of it.
- Up to two entries per contestant allowed.
- Of course disabled contestants are welcome, even disabled horses.
Children´s Dress Up & Halter. MS used to be considered as a "strictly adult" illness, but there have been many cases of Pedriatic MS (you can read up more about it here ). And what kid doesn´t like dress-up?
- The theme of this dress-up will be "folklore and fairytales", so go wild! This can be folklore and fairytales from all around the world, so please clarify what tales you are referring to in your entry.
- Allowed for this will be children aged 16 and under, but they need to be old enough to be capable of handling a foal or pony.
- Allowed are ponies and young horses (up to 1.5 years of age), of every breed (fantasy breeds included).
- Horses can be decorated as well.
- This is a halter class, so you may show your horse getting handled, or the child standing next to it...whatever fits the theme.
- Some part of the costuming and the horse´s gear need to be orange, if not all of it.
- Up to two entries per contestant allowed.
- Of course disabled contestants are welcome, even disabled horses.
The Rules
- You have to own an active stable (independent or registered in any kind of HARPG)
- Participants of all drawing levels as well as traditional and digital artists are welcome!
- Characters of any race, nationality, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disabled or not, are welcome to participate. Even disabled horses!
- No free premade linearts, please. If you make the lineart yourself for that event, that's okay.
- Tracing and referencing are fine. Credits are required on EVERY image! If you use none or use your own resources, please state so. Credit the original image with an active link to the artist and the deviation/picture you used as reference! I will check every single entry – if I can't find any credits, the picture will be disqualified.
- If possible try and use dA ressources only, of people who allow their stock to be used in such a way.

You haven´t! Finals got me bad, to the point where free time was barely non-existent.
Had my last exam yesterday, so this will be judged soon!
(If I redo this event I´ll probably postpone it to July anyways so that I won´t run into this same problem again).

It hasn´t. I´m trying to be as quick as possible - let´s just say that I didn´t expect my studies to give me as much anxiety as it has lately.
It WILL be judged though, rest assured.

Ryan says being actually on a horse is equestrian themed enough and I mean if you want he could always put some boots on but y'know.
