Fantastic work! I've just had an explore through all your skywind armour concepts. They suit the original game's feel perfectly. Really impressive designs.

That model looks great. I wouldn't have guessed that this is your first. I wouldn't cringe at it! As a mood piece it captures the feel of the game perfectly, beaten only by your Redoran Noble in my opinion.

I will soon, but I have a relatively new baby, homework, my business to run, and side projects...and I'm totally procrastinating right now!
Once I finish school in May, I'll break that bad boy out.

They're mostly ash protection (ashland air and winds are full of sharp volcanic shards you don't want to breathe in), but surely the nomads don't mind it when an outlander runs away in terror just on the sight of them.

haha, oh Lord ;D
i can only agree with your discourse; dunmers have always amazed me with their ability to stand such harsh nature conditions. that's why they somehow remind me of Siberians o.o have you read Bethesda's virtual treatise made as a dialogue between a dunmer and a foreigner - Interview with Alvur Relds? there're quite interesting facts about how Morrowind inhabitants save themselves from ash storms. and just curious details about dunmers' ordinary life
if you haven't read it and have some plenty time, enjoy: www.imperial-library.info/cont… x3

Thinking of unreal universes is a great way to get a different perspective for looking at ours Settled Dunmeri culture is very differentiated. We have Redoran who are a bit like early arabs, very respectful and noble. If you look at Djenne mosque you'll probably see similarities to Ald'Ruhn.
Hlaalu, whom I'd compare to Jews perhaps - merchants that know how to go along with other nations but still keeping to their own traditions. Their architecture however reminds me of ancieny Indus, like in Harappa. Ancient Sumer architecture looks somewhat similar too.
Then we have Telvanni who are like nothing else... Probably the least "Earthly" of Dunmer cultures, as their lifestyle is completely based on magic. Even their architecture is impossible in our world I don't think there are any cultural inspirations really.
Then we have Velothi, who is basically Temple and Indoril. The biggest of their architectural achievements would of course be Vivec. I'm not really sure what to compare it to.
Ancient Dunmer however, were quite clearly based on Mesopotamia. Daedric shrines and Dunmer fortresses names sound like Sumerian or Assyrian kings - even Dagoth Ur is a typical word for them. The Dunmer Fortressess resemble Ziggurats very much too. I think Velothi architecture is a descendant of that. The Dwemer were surely based on Assyrians and Persians too. If you look at the original Dwemer concept art by Michael Kirkbride and then at Assyrian warrior depictions you'll see they're practically the same. And the towers of their bronze fortresses do look similar to Persian architecture too.
Now, all that is just a basis. What Dunmer culture, especially architecture was mostly based on would be, like in most cases on Earth, nature. And with the alien nature of Vvardenfell we get alien looking architecture too. Giant mushrooms and anthropods is nothing weird in Morrowind and the architecture is very much inspired by them. Hell, many buildings ARE giant mushrooms and anthropods

:О !! woah! what an incredible speech you've set!
i'm glad there are people who find it fascinating to speculate upon such topics. what is obvious, Dunmers don't really look like Western people. Eastern elements are discernible in names of their cities, national drinks, somehow in their own names (which contain many "y" letters, or is it just elven feature?). they are self-contained, distrustful to foreigners, think that strangers ruin Dunmeri culture. they have dark skin, after all (even though they looked like Altmers before Azura cursed their ancestors, but still).
i'll look through photos of those real cities you listed, that will be interesting to search for similarities.
