I rarely see (or haven't seen) history books on the Revolutionary war here in England. It's sort of as if we want to forget about it ... or want to pretend it never happened

The Revolutionary war is taught in the most patronizing way possible and it takes up a large part of our US history courses.
Considering how braggy America is, I don't think it's possible to pretend it never happened or even forget.

I Β know ... I just thought I'd mention it because it's as if it still causes us pain, or we're still trying to get over our loss

Well the US was the first British territory to become independent, after that more and more did the same (some not so violently)until now the once British Empire in just the UK, a few British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies. I think I would kind of want to forget about the Revolutionary war too where I not an American

Not exactly. From what I can recall from my history books (I'm too lazy right now), there wasn't even anything as the British empire yet. It was after the Revolutionary, and they had an attidude ''just say something different than I do and you're dead'', our teacher used to say.

And also, people were happy to leave England, because they had to pay really heavy taxes and had really hard time getting by. It's also no accident it's close to the Seven Years War, part of which was the French-Indian war. And both history and Hetalia tell us that England and France got into fighting each other any chance they could. But what most people don't know is that England's economy was devastated. So, they did the only thing they could: raising the taxes in the colonies.

Huh ... I didn't know that. I feel really stupid ... I live in England and yet I have no idea what happened when it started losing colonies

It's totally understandable. For one, I think it's a 'sensitive' part of history, and two, where is history taught properly? I really want to be in that place/country/planet/wherever it is.

They didn't exactly start a domino effect I don't think (I don't really know much abou the topic so I could be wrong) but they where the first.

Oh .... I don't know much about it either. I assumed after losing America, England started losing colonies like crazy
