She and her frames, cylinders, motion, and wheels were stored but never cut up, and these were sold to the Arlesdale Railway as a kit of parts to build a new engine for their needs, as well as much of the old wagons, coaches, track, and signaling equipment which could be salvaged. In addition to the parts provided, the Arlesdale Railway's works added a trailing axle, a cab, a new boiler, and a tender since the original side tanks had long since been removed. The result was a new engine so different she was even given a new name. The engine Mike, Rex, and later Jock and Frank would know as Bert was born as a result of this. Bert, as this new engine was known, had difficulty adjusting to his new shape and name. He dared not tell them about who he once was, until now.
