Description One of a series of pictures from my time in Japan of traditional Japanese architecture (temples, shrines, etc.). Uploading for use as stock imagery/reference.

Location: Takahashi Inari Shrine - Kumamoto
Date: May 2007

There are many versions of torii - sometimes, they mark the entrance to a shrine, and sometimes they form a walkway. I've seen markers on various torii with names of people or groups, which makes me wonder if people can donate torii to a shrine the same way people donate stain glass windows or pews to a church in the West.

Excellent shot! This is what I'd expect in a brochure.
