Description This is my first 3D project ever! It is the famous light bulb by Pixar.

I did this model as part of work for the course Principles of Computer Graphics that I'm attending at my university. Currently I'm finishing the project and I'm about to submit it soon.

I did the model, scene and rendering in Cinema 4D R12, the modeling part took me about 3 hours.

I hope you will enjoy my work at least how I enjoyed doing this This is also my first submition to deviantART with this account. Feel free to post a comment!

Have you worked in 3D Studio Max? Which is better for 3d modeling, and which one for animating? And what about Maya? Anyway, I'm asking because I would like to start modeling, and I am unsure to which app should I "give myself" to...

I didn't really work with 3ds max or maya but I think that cinema 4D is good choice to start with. It is imho more intuitive than the other two and for modeling it's perfect. If you'd like to make some advanced animation then I guess 3ds max is better. But for learning how to animate cinema is pretty good. Also C4D's got great tools for working with curves and is good in editing a model in terms of single polygons. And don't forget a great render engine. On the other hand if you'd like to learn 3D in order to make living with it you should probably consider 3ds or maya because in business they are the most used ones. But also take in mind a cost of the software - c4d is much cheaper than 3ds max.
I hope that I'd helped you at least a little bit

Is it rigged? Can you animate it? (Great job on the modeling, nonetheless!)

No it's not rigged, it's primary use was just for a model. But I'm currently trying some basic animation and I'm planning to animate Luxo as well, when I have some time to do so.

Welcome to Deviant Art! It's amazing how that little lamp was just the start of some of my all time favorite movies (Toy Story Trilogy).
