Are those thin branches or vines? Are they sturdy and stiff or do they move like hanging willow branches?

They are roots--they are very sturdy they hang from the main plant that is a Native fig tree--the original tree is overtaken by the Fig tree --the roots go down into the ground

In two seconds, its eyes are going to open and it'll start walking about like an ent (which is awesome).

Yes agreed--there are 2 very large curtain figs easily accesable --there are others not so large--there are hundreds if not thousands in the deep rainforest--& Yes it does remind me of an ent--maybe Tolkien visited here once
