...I like memes. I saw this one ans just wanted to explain the process of coming down to Yinyamon. I actually have more concept art that this (which I'll prolly upload on my Tumblr eventually), but these were the major designs I stuck with for a time.

Yinyamon started out as a completely different Digimon called Palliomon (from Papillon, a breed of dog characteristic for their butterfly ears). I was never satisfied with Palliomon- it looked like a Tailmon ripoff (which it technically was- it was white and decked out in holy rings). It was only after hearing about TDc that I finally decided to redesign it into something more interesting. Ironically, the inspiration for the new design was Nyaromon, Tailmon’s In-Training form. I liked the jagged mouth look and decided a mask would better suit it. Got rid of the wings overtime because they were pretentious as hell, changed the tail because it didn’t make sense. The leg fur looked more like feathers so I gave it tail feathers instead.

The theme for this Digimon was one of the hardest I had to come up with, because a majority of Digimon was based on something at least. I decided something to reference Palliomon’s earlier origin as a restrained virus-infested program and went with the typical Yin-Yang shindig. I couldn’t call it Taomon since she already exists, so Yinyamon was the next best thing.

The backstory was inspired by my dad’s dead laptop- it got so full of viruses that it died out. He loaded a crapton of antivirus software to deal with it, but actually did more harm that good in the long run. I imagined a Digimon that would always be incarnated with a virus that would eventually overrun it as it evolved. It was possible to keep the virus controlled via Holy Rings (antivirus programs), but it would never completely eliminate the virus, and would resume its corruption the moment the rings lost their power or were removed. Rather than fight it, though, the Digimon could learn to accept it and adapt to it, balancing out the good with the bad as per the Taoism aspect.
