Description
At the Komo Shrine 「薦神社」 there is a path that leads up to the main temple complex that is lined with lanterns or tōrō 「灯籠」 (light baskets). They are lanterns made out of stone, this kind is a dai-dōrō 「台灯籠」
They are all different styles, and some of them seem really old. Most of them are covered in moss, and are dramatically beautiful.

More from this shoot
At the beginning of December, we decided to go take some pictures. My husband had mentioned that he bikes past a few shrines on his way to one of his schools, so we grabbed the camera bag and headed out. It turns out, this is a rather large Hachiman shrine, the Komo Hachiman Shrine 「薦神社」I cannot wait to go back again to get more pictures!
You can see more images on my Flickr here!
