Description Three Asian style pine trees stand on cliff-tops. Their branches are weather-beaten and they have grown twisted.

I had rather a lot of difficulty in painting this one - I think I carried the background version around with me in my travels for probably a good year, trying to figure out what to put on it. Finally I decided I would try doing trees. I love the way the original turned out and have it hanging in my kitchen alongside a metal ornament of two roosters fighting (inherited from my mom, she was gonna sell it in a garage sale).

My name is signed with a literal kanji translation of my name - "Do-na" & roughly translates back to English as Earth-name.

I like the colours in this one, like an old parchment. The trees are beautiful, the way that grow on rocks. Th meaning of your name is awesome, and the signature looks really cool even for someone who can't read the letters!

Thank you very much! This one still hangs in my kitchen where I can see it frequently. All the layers of metallic paint actually made it rather heavy, too, but I quite liked how the background turned out.

Oh so it's metallic paint? That's very interesting, I never used that. Is it relief as well?

It's discrete in colouring, simple yet with a deeper meaning, having those majestic undaunted trees growing on those sharp edges. So I can see why it's a great paitning to hang on your wall!

Metallic paint is fun to use. There's several layers of it in this painting. Unfortunately, no, it doesn't have much of a 3-D nature to it.

Thank you so much for your kind comments!

I see. I should give it a try if I have the opportunity. I've been more into pencil drawing recently, but one can never know when the painting-mood strikes back

You're welcome!

Another beautiful painting! The background colours are very nice and warm, kind of "earthy" too (kind of fits 土名 ) which totally fits the picture and what you drew on the background. You have painted the pine trees well, and I like how you've drawn them to look twisted. Your brush strokes really make this picture look like one of those traditional Asian-style paintings (your signature adds to that, too). Great job!

Simple looking but intricate in the composition of the branches

Thanks so much! It's one of my favorites. To be honest I was so nervous painting this as to me the background was perfect & I worried I was going to mess up on the trees or the cliff-tops.

I do understand your feeling of being afraid to mess up on something that you are working on. I did actually messed up my last painting and don't have courage to try to finish it. I worked so much on the idea, but in the end, rushed with the background. That messed up the whole thing for me

Aww...that sucks. Maybe some day you'll go back to it. I've done that with a few paintings, sometimes to paint over the whole canvas and turn it into something completely different.
