Its a common mistake with many characters in OP. WE don't make mistakes with Monkey D Luffy or Ronona Zoro because we hear "Luffy" and "Zoro" all the time.
With LAw, Luffy's been calling him by last name "Trafal-guy", so its common fan instinct to call him Trafalgar. But reason Luffy calls him that instead of Law, is that they are not so familiar with each other so its a last name basis.
Not to mention that Oda's not always clear on names=
Edward Newgate
Catarina Devon
Those fit the weastern method of first names, Edward as last names adds a 's', and 'catarina' sound like catherine'. So many fans thinks thats the first name and last names are Newgate & Devon. But fact is, that Oda has not given offical word that any name is in western method, so its likely that Newgate & Devon are their first names.
