Thank you so much for the great comment. You'll have to forgive me. I had to get one of my coworkers to translate it for me. this was a while ago so I've forgotten the exact specifics.
I don't speak spanish. I'm just brown and look like I should.
I understand your critique about the choice of bird used. I will actually keep in mind the specific bird you mentioned.
While I was drawing off of latino culture it can be considered a loose form. In the little texas town I grew up peacocks are more widely used. I suppose you can trace it back to the heavier influence of gang, lowrider and even prison influences in the collection of images constantly used in the art.
And while I was growing up peacocks were the thing Vato!
This collection is more of a moc study of what I observed rather than a more respectable homage to the art.
But again. Thank you for the suggestion. If I do another "respect your culture" piece turing more toward the native location rather then the watered down chicano/a influences would be a nice direction.
