This listing is for a braided horsehair necklace in chocolate palomino, black, and flaxen chestnut horse hair. The necklace measures 19 inches in total length. It closes using a lobster clasp.

The hair for this bracelet was collected from three different horses - Jay, a standardbred mare, Wildfire, a paint gelding, and Marion, a miniature horse mare. Jay's and Wildfire's hair was collected by me and Marion's hair was collected by her owner and given to me in trade for custom work.

Jay was seized from her owner who was not providing proper care to her. Fortunately in this circumstance we were able to educate Jay's owner and returned her to his care. Jay is now being boarded at a local facility and is fat and sassy. While Jay was at the shelter we called her "The Cartoon Horse" because when she tried to gait she ran like a cartoon. We have many fond memories of riding Jay while she was in our care.

Wildfire was seized at the same time as my first foster mare, Lucy. Like Lucy he came to the shelter with lice and in very poor body condition. He has been adopted into a loving forever home.

Marion is a registered senior AMHA mare currently living out her golden years in a loving forever home. She is one of the lucky ones!

All of my horsehair items are handmade by me using horsehair gathered from animals encountered through my work in the animal welfare field. Only a small amount is taken from each horse during the normal grooming process. Each animal is an individual who's memory lives on in the items made from their hair, even after the animal has passed through my life. All my horsehair is cruelty-free, is not a by-product of the equine slaughter industry and is vegetarian/vegan friendly.

For each purchase of a horsehair bracelet, $5 will be donated to Team Kareem, an animal welfare group dedicated to helping the pyramid horses, donkeys and camels of Cairo, Egypt. If you aren't familiar with their work I recommend that you visit their website at [link] .
