Description This was a very old sketch, that finally found its way to deviationism.

That is not Walt Disney: That is Ub Iwerks holding Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's hand

Ever since I firt saw the statue of Oswald and a grown human man in an Epic Mickey preview, I wondered if that was really Walt, or was it someone more deserving of holding Oswald’s hand.
Then I found out when I finally played the game that the statue is of Walt Disney and Oswald, and frankly I was a little disappointed. “Oh so we’re really Are only remembering Oswald himself and keeping to that mentality. Ok
I heard someone (I forget who or on what deviation) say that they should rebuild the statue with both Mickey And Oswald together. I disagree.

Because the Partners statue, symbolizes the founders of the Walt Disney Empire (im gonna say empire because its bigger than a mere studio(it’s a theme park company, cruise line, and most definitely a merchandising empire rivaling McDonalds in size and world conquest) Walt Disney, the man who started it, and Mickey Mouse the symbol and mascot of it all. Mickey and Walt’s importance on and off the screen reflect’s eachothers.

There is a statue in Magic Kingdom (that I looked for but couldn’t find (because I looked in the wrong place) of Roy O. Disney and Minnie Mouse sitting on a bench together. This is very symbolic I find, because of who they are in relationship with the two people statued more prominently down the street.
Roy O. Disney was Walt Disney’s big brother, and chief financial executive of the Disney Studios. Walt was the creative manager, but Roy managed Money. That could easily be the reason Disney was so successful all these years within the industry, but the public only remembers Walt’s name.
Minnie Mouse has litterally been around Just as Long as Mickey. She was in all 3 of his first cartoons, and central to the plot in all 3 aswell. Minnie was more than just “Mickey’s girlfriend” (infact in the first 3 she Wasnt. Yet! Not offically. Moving on) she was his goal, she was the damsel in distress, his love intrest, the one he sets out to impress, she was bassicly Mickey’s whole Point. But sadly, eventhough we See her everywhere Mickey is, we’re all looking at Mickey, and she has prettymuch nothing to say. But she Is there.
And I find it 100% BLASPHEMY that she’s absent in Epic Mickey!(but I think Plotwise where Donald Goofy and Daisy are reflected in Wasteland with animatronics, Minnie’s relfected with Ortensia, but that’s just a theory)

Now enter Oswald. Who is Oswald? Now that we’ve all played Epic Mickey we can answer that with ease:
Oswald was Walt Disney’s first successful cartoon star, who after several other failed ventures finnally sent Walt Up the graph instead of down. Until the tragic budget meeting, Oswald was lost to Walt and Mickey Mouse was invented to replace him. Universal Tried to keep Oswald up, but eventually for lack of Walt, his star fizzled out. Only now eigth decades later, Disney buys Oswald back, and brings him back to the forefront alongside Mickey for everyone to meet and enjoy the success he never had.

And having said that, I think if Oswald had a statue of him holding someone’s hand, it wouldn’t be Walt; it would be someone he had more in common with: someone equally important to Disney and Mickey’s history, but equally forgotten: Ub Iwerks.

Ub Iwerks was Walt’s oldest and dearest friend in his life.
They met in their teen years and since then began the Laugh-O-Grams and made the Alice Comedies together. When they joined Universal Ub animated Poor Papa (Oswald’s first cartoon) all by himself and most of his other successful shorts.
Even after the tragic meeting, Ub stayed Loyal to Walt, and it is Ub NOT Walt who created Mickey Mouse. Walt came up with the personality, but the design, movement, and everything about old school Mickey Mouse, is actually all thanks to Ub.
(the flesh faced Mickey is thanks to Fred Moore btw(honorable mention)
Ub even animated “Plane Crazy” entirely by himself.
However, as Mickey and Disney became more and more popular, Ub soon found himself unable to cope under Disney's harsh animation command Iwerks also felt he wasn't getting the credit he deserved for drawing all of Walt's successful cartoons. Eventually, Ub and Walt had a falling out; and Ub quit Disney and accepted a contract with Pat Powers and started an animation studio under his own name.
But the Iwerks Studio was never a major commercial success and failed to rival either Disney or Fleischer Studios. And in 1936 backers withdrew financial support from the Iwerks Studio, and it folded soon after. (Ub Also directed the first 2 shorts ever to star Porky Pig at Warner Bros after this)
Ub rejoined Disney in the special effects department. Most memorable among them was the live action/animation blend in Song of the South.
Ub’s biggest achievement outside of Disney was his special effects work for for Alfred Hitchcock's “The Birds”.

So in short,
-Ub was big part of Walt’s early success.
-Oswald was big part of Mickey’s creation.
-Walt over shadows Ub and Ub quits and strikes out on his own.
-Mickey success far outshines Oswald’s who is Walt-less now.
-Ub fails by himself.
-Oswald is forgotten even at Universal.
-Ub returns to Disney and starts working for Walt again.
-Oswald is bought back by Disney and appeared in Epic Mickey.

Walt and Mickey hold hands as partners at starting Disney and arte it’s driving forces

And Ub and Oswald are left far behind, the ones who caused them to start, but forgotten by time, hold hands and smile, conforted by eachothers plight.
And also conforted by people like me and you, who remember them now for their awesomeness

Sorry but You wrong about the whole picture because Oswald would have a statue with Roy O Disney because he Mickey Brother and Minnie would be with Lillian Disney because she Mickey wife , and this picture is stupid and wrong , I disagree sorry but I think Ub Iwerks has a Statue with Julius the Cat from Alice Comedies.

Ohhh You're right! Ub Iwerks doesn't get nearly as much credit as he should! Though I do think it would be more meaningful for Walt to hold hands with both Oswald and Mickey, as he is considered their "father". Plus, most people who visit Disney World have no idea who Ub is, so there would be a lot of confusion. I do agree that he deserves a statue or something. Maybe something like Roy's.

TaRtOoN-Man94 In reply to Galaxea [2011-04-25 21:26:48 +0000 UTC]

hmm
The first thing you said says you got my point, the second thing tells me you've lost it all over again.

First of all the "Partners" statue isnt a "Father & Son" statue. Its a symbolic reference to how the real Walt Disney along with his real life crew made "Disney" what it is today with the help of Mickey Mouse and His fictional crew. Together. Partners.
The only person it would be more meaningful to if Walt were holding both Mickey and Oswald's hands is Oswald himself.(and his fans) i understand that you all feel sorry for him, and he Does deserve you're love, but you're slowly starting to overrating him.)
He's Not as big a part of Disney history as Mickey is. Oswald's time was Before there ever Was a Disney studios, which Started with Mickey and is till mascoted by Mickey today.
Actually Ub Iwerks was More important than Oswald, because he was Before, And During Disney studios. The only reason he's not as famous as Walt, was because he was shy. Ub Iwerks deserves to be as remembered today as Oswald is, or more!

But besides, if Walt Disney is Mickey and Oswald's father, then Ub Iwerks is at no doubt Mickey and Oswald's "Mother" too!
So Oswald would Still be holding a parent's hand.

Allot of people who go to DisneyWorld before November30 2010 have no idea who Oswald is either! That's the whole Point! (actually My family who went last year dont even know who Walt is!)
Even If this statue became real it would Not replace the "Partners" statue infront of the castle, I would put it all the way in the back of the park... I think maybe besides the train tracks between Frontierland and Toontown, also symbolic of how people only Know about Ub and Oswald if they care to find out (or if they played Epic Mickey in Oswald's case ) they'd only see the statue if they went to look for it. Notice how far away the castle looks in this pic. Actually i meant for it to be in Wasteland when i drew it.

Now if only Mansion and Pirates were close together, we could have statues of Marc Davis and Claude Coats, since those two rides are the most remembered for the influence of Davis and Coats, as well as Rolly Crump and Ken Anderson.

Thanks,
I was also thinking that Donald Duck should get a statue with Carl Banks (or the 2nd most important most creative person at Disney(but there' dispute on who That is)if they ever make another Disneyland in Europe while Panchito and Jose should be in a congo line with the managers of Disney's distribution units around the world.

Sorry I'm making a reply to your reply now, but I just wanted to say something...
If there ever will a Carl Barks statue, I think it should be one with Scrooge McDuck instead of Donald, because Barks's favorite Disney character was Scrooge, and he created a lot of Scrooge's personality and background story and he has influenced today's comic makers when they do comics about Scrooge. For example, Don Rosa, was very inspired by Carl Barks's background story of Scrooge.
Yeah that's just what i think... ^^

Thats actually quite brilliant
I'll leave it to someone who knows as much as you
Like i said, Donaldoesnt have to be statued with Carl Banks, he has to be statued with The most influential person in the Disney studio other than Walt himself
I know i can imagine Olie Johnson driving a statue of a train, with all of his famous characters that he animated for Disney riding it.

..but who would Goofy get a statue with?

ART BABBIT.

He created him, as far as I know. Plus he has a very cool name.

TaRtOoN-Man94 In reply to sidviscous [2011-05-01 01:02:36 +0000 UTC]

I like his name too 8D
Yeah that does sound like a good idea, except he and Disney had a falling out and he was Fired during the Animators Strike of 1941. i recall along with helping start an animators union, he worked for Warner Brothers for a short time too. But i like the idea because he was a Big help at not just Disney, but in the world of animation itself too! i know Goofy is a big deal at Disney, but he's Allot more Loyal to Mickey than Art was to Walt.(but i find Art was right)

Bassicly what i'm looking for in these statue ideas are people(living or dead) in the Disney Studios who's importance to Disney's history and relationship with Walt can be mirror-linked by Disney Characters that are equaly important in Disney's history and if possible have a simular relationship with Mickey. Having No connetion to Mickey still counts because Mickey Mouse is prettymuch the Hub of the Disney Multiverse anyway. (just ask Kingdom Hearts or House of Mouse.) And allot of important people have joined Disney after Walt's death.

One idea i had among others was a big long statue of Ollie Johnson driving a statue of a train(because he liked trains) ridden by Pinochio, Bambi, Thumper, Lady, Ducnhess, Thomas O'Malley, Pongo, Kanga, Roo, Mowgli, Baloo, Alice, Smee, Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Uncle Waldo hanging drunk off the back of the caboose.
