Description
(drawn 3-23-19; made with MediBang Paint Pro)
I wanted to do at least one of the drawings this week with my character design from last year. As the week went on, I was sort of starting to run out of days in which to do that because I kept accidentally doing new(ish) designs, so I finally decided to assign that to day 6. Amrod and Amras were not going to get an impromptu redesign.
...but they got it anyway. It kind of started because I usually have them wearing green but then I noticed that nobody had worn yellow yet in this series, and then it just kind of spiraled out from there.
I did a sketch for this one that I was happy with...and then immediately deviated from it as I started drawing Amrod. When I got to Amras, this caused me to end up with me doing an awkward mix of my original sketch and something off the cuff for him.
That's enough talk about for the stuff that didn't go as planned: the layout, on the other hand--with all the blank space--was mostly intentional. The initial reasoning was that it allowed Amrod's necklace which Amras is holding to be in one of those four "attention corners" (I don't remember what the technical word for them is, bear with me), but when I'd finished the sketch I realized there was a sort of spatial imbalance which I ended up liking because imbalance is sort of the point of this piece...
The whole week I've been using "Hymn for the Missing" by Red as my drawing mood music, but today I added Blacklite District's "The Struggle" to the mix because it seemed like it sort of fit.
(Amrod and Amras are from J.R.R. Tolkien's book "The Silmarillion".)

We all knew what was coming on the Ambarussa day. Literally the easiest day to choose the ghost for because of course...
Thank you! I'm so glad you like it!

Hehe, well art is sometimes like that… you spend several days planning something, and then you draw it and spend several hours on it and then you noticed it’s something completely different than what you planned… I know from experience, it happens to me at least 40% of the time…
But hey! it still looks cool! So that’s great! I like how Amras has kept Amrod’s pendant with him all these years… ;_; it’s a really nice touch!!

Exactly. I would have such a hard time with animation, I think, since you really do have to stick to the plan with that.
Thanks! Of all the angst tropes, one of my top favorites is the friend/sibling finding and keeping some piece of jewelry (or something else) from the character that died. It's...really soft and sad at the same time.

SO GOOD
Love love love the colors in this
Absolutely phenomenal choice. Absolutely phenomenal. The pose??? So so good. Such raw, and deep emotion. Just. So good
It’s good to see I’m not the only one who struggled with this day. I probably redrew the twins 10 times....

Ah, I'm glad you like it! I realized as I was doing the last steps that Amras's color scheme is really...fiery (hair, tunic, even the belt and boots), which was a bit tasteless, but I didn't really feel like going back and changing it. (As for the pose, I actually changed it four or five times in the sketch stage and almost broke my rule of no reference for the series this year. Kind of just gave up in the end. "Eh, close enough." So I'm relieved you like it.)
The twins have always been a bit of a trick for me, because I've never been able to absolutely settle on a look for them. Every time I think I've decided on something, a new design pops up. It's fun, yes, but also frustrating...
