Description This is my contest entry for =StickFigureQueen ’s contest . Decided to enter just out of fun as the idea was really awesome!
Anyway, my entry is a Cayman mixed with a pony. (A Cayman is a type of crocodile/alligator species, it’s smaller and stuff, look here > [link] .) Her cutie mark is/was a mirror, but since she was spliced it’s now a broken, distorted mirror.

Background story! -->(Forgive my lack of good story writing skills, I just thought I’d give it a go )

NEVER try typing when you’ve handcuffed yourself ._.

Vanity the Cayman Queen

Vanity was once an earth pony princess and she was the most beautiful and gentle princess that her kingdom had ever seen. Her kingdom was not Canterlot, but just a small kingdom that was miles from any neighbouring village or town, but it was her family’s kingdom for hundreds of years, it was home.

Whilst trotting around looking for the perfect spot to picnic with her husband-to-be, Prince Odium, Vanity noticed a strange pony lurking around in front of her. This pony was wearing a hooded cloak, which was far too warm to wear at this lovely time of year; he kept his head low, like he did not want anyone to recognize him. As Vanity approached this suspicious pony, he hastily threw something into the grass, and as it disappeared with an orange glow, the stranger turned to Vanity and smiled warmly.

“Oh! Did not see you there! I was just... looking for something.”

Vanity, now calmed by his smile said: “Sorry to sneak up on you, would you like help looking for whatever it is you’re looking for?”

The stranger turned and smiled to himself. “No, it is fine your majesty, I’ll come back tomorrow. It is getting late. Goodnight to you.”

The stranger then left without waiting for a farewell from Vanity. Vanity shrugged her shoulders and thought nothing more of the strange pony and what he was looking for. She then continued to find Prince Odium, who was waiting for her to enjoy an afternoon picnic with her. In the distance, Vanity heard a call.

“Over here, Beautiful!” called Prince Odium.

At the sound over her true love’s voice, Vanity rushed over with a smile spreading across her face. As she was running towards Prince Odium, she felt something hard and cold under her hoof, it sent a stab of pain up her leg and then all through her body. She yelped in pain from this sudden feeling.

“What happened? Are you ok, my love?” asked Prince Odium, frantically checking to see if she was hurt.

Vanity stood still and settled her breathing. “Yes I’m fine; I just think I stood on a sharp rock.”

Prince Odium kissed her forehead. “Please be careful.”

After they enjoyed a picnic as the sun set, they gazed at the stars together until they fell asleep. Vanity was not asleep for long, she felt ill, and it was as if the illness was making her entire body churn. She steadily got up and headed to the nearby river to get some water to settle her stomach. The walk to the river took longer than it should have, she shook and the illness would not go away. It felt like her body was shifting around slowly and convulsing with harsh movements.

When she slowly reached the river, Vanity leaned in to drink some refreshing cool water. As she leaned in, she got a shock when she saw a huge crocodile-like beast face staring at her.

“Hope I did not make it mad... I’ll go over here...”

She leaned in to drink the water, but before she even got her mouth to the water, Vanity realised that the crocodile beast was staring at her again. She froze in fright.

That’s my reflection... Vanity though to herself, speechless, and unable to believe her own eyes. She was a beautiful princess just a moment ago, and now she was a horrible beast, a freak of nature. She cried as the realisation set in.

Prince Odium woke to the sound of sorrowful crying, and found that his true love was nowhere to be seen. He got up and rushed towards where the crying sounds were coming from.

“Vanity! Is that you? Why are you crying?” He called out, panicking because this sudden change in mood scared him deeply. This was very unlike her, something terrible must have happened.

“Please don’t come near me! Go away! PLEASE GO AWAY!” she wailed.

Tears welling up in his eyes, Prince Odium ran back to the castle to fetch her parents to come help their distressed daughter.

Vanity heard him gallop away, and now that she was alone and not to be seen she tried to stifle her tears and sobs and slowly headed towards the castle. My family will still love me... they will always love me... she thought hopefully to herself.
As she headed towards the castle to show her frightening new appearance to her family, she noticed a golden glow from underneath the hoof that she hurt on the stone earlier.
She looked at the source of the glow; a rather large amber gold jewel was embedded in her hoof. Is that causing my... my... ugly... scary appearance? She wondered in horror and the glow continued to shine upon her scaly, jagged toothed face. Vanity cast a quick look at her tail, which had now become a long, scaly, reptilian tail topped with vicious spikes. What remained of her lovely blue and mint green pony tail was at the end of the long scaled part, quite like a lion’s tail, while her mane protruded from the scales along her head and neck.
Her hooves still remained, but her hind hooves had been morphed into a mix between hoof and claw, and she had grown clawed toes, one to the inside and two to the outside on her hind legs, and one large dew-claw on each of her front legs. Each of the clawed toes was webbed like a water-dwelling reptile must have to swim. I’m a hideous pony-crocodile hybrid now... all because of this one little jewel...she sobbed in dismay.

When she reached the castle, Prince Odium stood waiting and looking frantically about as soldiers searched for the saddened, lost princess.
Pacing back and forth, King Leniencie of the earth ponies, tried to think of what would cause his daughter to be upset and out so late, it was too out of the ordinary for him to make sense of what was happening. Following his movements with her eyes, Queen Ardour of the earth ponies spoke to her worried husband and her Son-in-Law-to-be;

“It will be alright, she would not leave us for long, and she loves us all dearly. Perhaps she just needs to be alone for a little while.”

King Leniencie stopped pacing and sighed. “I hope you are right my dear and I hope she will be fine.”

The royal earth pony guards stood to attention at an approaching shadow. “Halt! Who goes there? Is that you, Princess Vanity?”

The shadow stumbled forward with a sob. “Yes... It is...Mother? Father? I’m so sorry...I did not... did not... want...” Vanity broke down in tears before she could finish her sentence.

“What is wrong my poor sweet daughter? What happened?” her mother, Queen Ardour said to her daughter softly.
Vanity felt the tears run down her scaly cheeks. “I’m... a monster...” she whispered sadly.

She stepped forward into the light cast by the flaming torches that lit up the front entrance to the castle. Once the guards saw the jagged teeth and scales they drew their weapons and stood in front of the King and Queen of earth ponies.

“Not one more step forward, Monster. What have you done with our princess?” The captain of the royal guards spoke in a powerful, deep voice.

“It is me! Vanity! I...I...I got... transformed! I did not...want...this!” she sobbed hysterically.

The royal guards proceeded towards Vanity with weapons at the ready, disbelieving that this scaled creature was their beautiful princess.

“GUARDS. STOP THIS INSTANT!” cried out Queen Ardour. Steeping in front of the line of guards, she looked at the creature that was her daughter, and recognized the mane, the shade of pink on the body and the voice of her daughter.

“What has happened to you?” Vanity’s mother said as she raised a hoof gently brush at her daughter’s mane to comfort her.

“I...I...stood on a...magic jewel...then I fell ill...and...and...I became this.” Vanity cried to her mother.

King Leniencie walked forward to comfort his daughter, accepting that his wife knew her own daughter and that their daughter had now been transformed into a terrifying creature. However, Prince Odium did not believe that this monster before him was his true love, his wife to be.
He stared at the face of a terrible monster with slitted eyes and sharp teeth and felt a deep anger inside him. This is not my love, my sweet Vanity! Vanity is beautiful and gentle! This creature is not her! He grabbed at the sword that the guard next to him held in his mouth, held it towards Vanity and rushed at her with the intent to slay the beast that took his love’s voice and beautiful mane.

Vanity noticed the movement behind her comforting and forgiving parents and stepped backwards quickly in fright. Missing his target, Prince Odium stopped and turned again towards her walking slowly, huffing and puffing with the sharp silver sword glinting in his mouth.

Vanity felt a wave of more tears arise at the sight of her true love turning against her, trying to kill her. She backed a few steps backwards with tears streaming down her face. Why does he not recognise me? He should know that this is me! He loves me!
Prince Odium rushed at her, anger in his eyes and fuelling his attack. Unless he only loved my beauty... That is not true love...How superficial! Vanity thought in anger and heartbreak at this realisation.
As Prince Odium neared, a deep, anger filled her from the core to each extremity, filling her with a bestial rage that was not her own, she was angry, but not this angry to turn violent upon those she loved. This was not her. This was the crocodile side of her rage. It burned inside her, and as Odium’s sword crashed down on the tough scaled skin on her throat she attacked him. The sword broke under the force of the blow upon her strong scales and shattered shards of metal all around them. These shards flew towards many guards, bouncing off their armour, but cut through the king and queen’s skin easily.

The queen, half protected by her husband, only received minor scars. While the king, taking the full brunt of the rocketing pieces of shrapnel, received major cuts and a large piece of shrapnel from the sword’s blade had sliced through the main artery in his throat. The bleeding began instantaneously and ceaselessly, the king turned to smile to his wife and daughter as he grew weaker and weaker, life leaving his body as fast as the blood flowed. Before reality had hit anypony around, the king died before their very eyes, with a smile to farewell his beloved wife and daughter. Vanity saw her father fall and she stopped immediately.

Before Vanity realised what the rage inside her had done, she heard the crunching of bones under her powerful jaws. Her mouth still closed around Odium’s lifeless throat, she placed the broken corpse on the ground gently, warm tears streaming down, refusing to let her forget the sickening feeling in her stomach as she had broken her true love’s throat.

Glancing from the body of her dead husband-to-be, to her father’s body surrounded in a pool of blood, and up to her mother’s heartbroken, horror-struck face, Vanity backed away as if removing herself from their presence would make everything good again.

“I’m so sorry...I did not mean to...I did not...I’m so...sorry...Mother...Please I’m sorry!” Vanity begged her mother.

Before her mother could respond, Vanity turned and fled the scene, running away to never return to where she had truly become a monster. She was never seen near the castle again, and it is said that she lurks in the Everfree forest in the swamp areas, hissing as she walks to warn any other creature, especially pony, away from her and what she can do.

Her mother watches the edge of the forest everyday in the hope of her daughter’s return, no matter what form she may come home to her in.

Princess Vanity, Prince Odium, King Leniencie, Queen Ardour and anything else is designed by me.

My Little Pony belongs to Hasbro and Lauren Faust.

Yeah, stories are what get me every time. When an awesome picture has a backstory it just seems to flow together and give me a big movie in my head about the backstory. And your story had a sorrow/dark feeling that seemed to flow really well. Nice art by the way, the design, coloring, shading, and lighting all seem to combine to create the perfect imagine. :3
